I loved Approaches to Lit and I love Dr. Gottfried! She made discussions interesting and was okay with the class having fun with them too. Very easy to talk to and ask for help. Would definitely recommend approaches to lit even if english isn't your favorite; it's more like a philosophy class.

Environmental Literature. Very interesting for ENSP/Bio students. Very nice, very intelligent, VERY passionate. Encourages creative/analytical thinking. Often brought in snacks for long discussion classes. Great teacher!
ENGL219
Dr. Gottfried is very passionate about Creative Writing, but I learned nothing in her class. Without any sort of lecture or discussion, students were required to submit items for Iowa style workshop... and then, those same uneducated students (in an introductory writing course) spent the entire semester critiquing those submissions... bogus.

Professor Gottfried is great. I wasn't exactly excited to be taking this class but it ended up being one of the best experiences I've had. Just makes sure you read the texts and participate in class.

Amazing teacher. Her daughter livened the class up even more. Dr.G and Mr. Kohl are the reasons I'm at hood today.
ENGL420
Extremely knowledgeable, but also very busy. Go to her office knowing what you need to say because it helps her give you the exact advice you were looking for! Great with email communication, and in-class discussions. Overall she is an excellent, top-quality teacher who is both very entertaining and detailed in her responses.
ENGL470
Wonderful experience! If you are a motivated student who wants to be pushed to the extent of their abilities and challenged, take a class with her!
AFEN265
Best Eng teacher I've had at Hood! Vivacious teaching style & an open-door policy for motivated students. You must do the reading and participate in class discussions, but that's really not much to ask, is it? If I could take all of my Eng courses with her, I would. She's far superior to other English prof's at Hood.

Dr. Gottfried's classes and the grades in which you earn will be highly reflective of the amount of effort you put in. I will give her props for making an exam which you have to identify the book, author, and the significance. Yeah, this sucks - but it's ingenious in making students read. Reminds me alot of Miss Frizzle from Magic School Bus.
ENGL219
This class is a lot of work. (You must write a 15+ page story, in addition to several poems) You must also write and critique every one of your peers work. Dr. Gottfried is nice but kind of odd.. reminds me of a hippe!
ENG470
I would disagree with those who say she is "distant." Gottfried is always supportive and friendly to her students (she has an open door policy to her office). And she treats them like people, not hamsters she's trying to train to recite Shakespeare (unlike some professors). She's great for majors and non majors alike!
AFEN265
Professor Gottfried is a very motivated professor. Passionate about her subject, but cold and distant with students. Unwilling to listen to personal problems.
AFEN265
Very awake professor at 8:30 in the morning, she keeps the class going! Very helpful with anything you need and talkative.
ENGL129
Easy class as long as you work on improving your writing and listen to her advice. There's little reading, mostly just a few short novels and short stories. Very discussion based, though, so go to as much class as possible.

EN 219
Dr. Gottfried is a fantastic teacher. She's a professor who truly understands that writing isn't a cookie-cutter art, but rather that everyone expresses themselves uniquely and she's willing to award people based not of being perfect, but embrassing the art of writing articulately from the heart.

Dr. Gottfired's classes tend to be very easy and interesting. Sometimes, you may get the feeling that she's going too easy on everone, though. When you get an A, but then find out that the guy who didn't even read the book got the same grade, it doesn't mean as much.

Dr. Gottfried is an inspiration. She critiques without criticizing, and is very helpful with her comments and encouragement. She's not an easy grader, and you must earn what you receive. Definitely worthwhile.

It's not too bad, sometimes a little discouraging, but critique is always good to improve your writing. She's kinda spastic at times, but she's got a great, fun personality. Know your grammer and writing styles beforehand though. I made it through school without being taught it, hence my wakeup call
