I completely agree with the prior comments. I dreaded going to class but learned a lot. He is not at all my style - very liberal and liberal in sharing his own views.

I really did not like his lecture style, and dreaded going to the class. I focused on the readings, studied hard for the tests, did all the briefs, and got an A. But it was a struggle to get there every day and sit through it. He's a good guy, just not my kind of professor. Do all the briefs. Study hard for both tests.

I LOVED Professor Malter's class! He expects a lot from his students but he puts in just as much, if not more effort. He is probably the most understanding/adorable professor i have ever had. He makes his liberal views known however, he is open to letting other views be discussed. Overall best class i have taken/will ever take at GW

Professor Malter is by far the toughest professor that I have ever had, yet the most enjoyable. He will make you work hard and hold you to a very high standard. With that said, he is incredibly fair and, if you come to class willing to work and willing to contribute, he will reward you.

You will learn how to brief cases and memorize passages. However, he is a very tough grader. He says he will compensate for this somewhat if you participate a lot, which is not really true. I participated every class and my grade did not go up. Good if you're going to law school, but your gpa will suffer.

You need a good memory to store all the information you have to learn for the tests (some of it verbatim). Malter even tried to point out specifically what we would be tested on as he was lecturing, so I disagree with the comment below that it was unclear what he wanted. The class was a challenge, but worth it if you want to learn con law.

Radically liberal, former lawyer for the EPA, who will bash Scalia and Thomas every chance he gets! Not really open to others views and class is set up so that every class you'll have 4 cases and 4 briefs to have to discuss in class. Always work, work work! 2 exams - very hard and hard to figure out what he wants in them.

Fantastic professor. What he taught helped me immensely in law school. Had little patience for students who weren't devoted to the course, but I loved his teaching style.

Malter is the GREATEST prof I have EVER had. He is engaging, he is knowledgable, & he really truly cares about his students. Lots of cases to read/brief but it really pays off and he brings them to life. Exams really do reflect what you learn in class & he's very fair. Class participation can bump you up a whole grade. BEST CLASS BEST AND PROF EVER

One of the better professors i've had here. However, he's a tough grader and doesn't find it necessary to escape the 1970s. He holds the entire class to painfully high standards applicable to law school students. You will enjoy the class, but you will kill yourself trying to keep up.

Malter is a rare gem of a professor. Cares about his students and is always available for help. Liberal, yes, but we go to GW, what do you expect; nevertheless he is open to all opinions. If you are thinking of law school, take his class. Briefing cases and learning to figure out what's important in a case will give you a leg up going into 1L.

This class is the hardest one I've taken and also one of my least favorite. Prof. is a poor lecturer who is quick to ramble off-topic; by the end of the semester we were over 2 weeks behind in the material. A fool for favoritism, he encourages participation but only calls on certain people. You will learn a lot, but avoid if you worry about GPA.

Very outspoken and liberal. Sometimes goes off on philisophical tangents, like what is the meaning of life. But very engaging and lively. Standard ConLaw class with case briefings being the basis. Gets especially heated around the 2nd half of the class when discussing race issues and capital punishment, but all depends on class dynamics. Manageable

Although you probably won't like him for the first class or two, he creates a great class and I've always looked forward to going. He gives his students the benefit of the doubt in general and respects them. Don't worry about the liberal thing, he's happy to debate with anyone and wouldn't grade you down because you're not liberal. Hard but great

Best prof. I've had at GW. Cares so much and his passion is contagious. He is very liberal, but he is honest about it and is fully open to dissent. (He actively encourages it.) Although the class is very hard, he is a fair grader and lets you know what he wants. If you want to learn Con Law and are willing to work hard, take Malter without a doubt.

Brilliant professor...can be somewhat caustic towards students...seems completely unaware of the fact...ultra-liberal, but if you are right-wing and speak your mind he will respect you more than the large amount of pansy liberals that will inevitably inhabit his class..very passionate and actually cares about his students..a rare find..a hard class

This man was unbelievable-and not in a good way. He lets his LIBERAL passions distract from the material. If you are not liberal he will badger you & get upset with you for not wasting half the class period arguing with him. I did 95% of the case briefs & still did not do well. He is a very smart but arrogant man with too many annoying biases.

What an AMAZING class, you've got to take it. I have never had a professor who was more enthusiatic about what he was teaching. He really cares, and that's rare. But a word of caution, you MUST work hard, very hard. He's fair, but no pushover. Read everything, he sometimes throws tantrums when people don't participate. He also very liberal. Take it
