Asian Art Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Having received straight A's in all of my courses (and as an Art History Major), I can attest that it is his absolute horrible manner of teaching and not the lack of effort that you put into your classes with him that allow grades to suffer. Truly closed minded and egotistical. No doubt he is knowledgeable, but is not versed in the art of teaching

Super rude, very closed minded. Makes this course harder than intro level.

ARTH 008 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

I really like his teaching style. He uses the text as a framework for lectures, but don't expect the material is the same. Exams are very easy, curve is generous. If you read the text and take thorough notes in class, you won't even need to study except right before exams. He's open to questions and good about talking outside of class. Good overall

ARTH196-282 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

Seyller is a difficult but extremely passionate professor. If you are extremely interested in art history and have already taken the survey courses then his class will be a challenge but interesting, and you will always remember the material.

Yeah, this class is hard, but there hasn't been a single moment when I haven't been totally interested in what he was saying. Very eloquent, genius, and he'll LOVE you if you listen. If you want a prof who'll walk you through every fact with a ppt, this isn't for you. But I've learned a ton about asian art and philosophy in just one semester.

Prof.Seyller was one of the best professors I've ever had. He doesn't dumb it down for the least common denominator. He teaches to those who actually want to learn. I consider it a compliment to him that so many whiners cry about him being a GPA drain. Art history ain't an "easy A" kids.

I've never tried so hard in a class and done so poorly. His lectures are extremely difficult to understand and he often disagrees with the book but stresses that you study both lectures and the book. His tests are all mutiple choice which I think is no way to test your undetstanding of art. Very frustrating class.

Asian Art was far and away the worst class I have ever taken. I love art history and have taken better classes here with other professors. This professor sucked. There is really nothing more to say. Avoid class at all costs unless you like having a D on your transcript

Both the material covered in and outside of class is extremely interesting. Seyller expects way too much out of his students though, and the exams are ridiculously hard. He expects you to put in at least 25 hours of studying per exam. Who has time for that? This is definitely a gpa killer. I would advise finding an easier class!

Tests all mult choice duznt mean they r easy AT ALL. I'd suggest goin 2 every class & make sure u ask him 2 repeat himself bc he mumbles the important things. Reading book is a must Id suggest making flashcards with pictures of the works their location style date & facts about them AS U GO ALONG or ur guna struggle studying for tests.kno dates&pics

John Seyller is far and away the worst professor I have ever had. The lectures contribute nothing to performance on the exam and he mumbles frequently. The lectures seemed to be more of a lecture on life itself rather than the subject matter. Any interest I had in art history was completely extinguished by this sorry excuse for a professor.

The course material is interesting and his lectures are essential to getting a good grade on the tests. If you take good notes off of his lectures and put in the hours for studying you can get a good grade. If you don't go to class or put in very little of an effort to study, then there is no way you can do well in this class.

Though he is a hard teacher he is very knowledgeable and insightful, I like how in his smaller classes it is more discussion based. I found the survey class horrible but this class has been thus far a pleasurable experience and completely changed my view of him.

Terrible professor. I signed up for the class because I was interested in the subject matter and after the first class of 'art in the dark' I knew this was going to be a bad one. He manages to turn an interesting subject into a boring, monotone lecture on life. Not good at all

I found him to be callous, disrespectful, arrogant. Should not be teaching undergraduate students. Publicly humiliated a student in my class. Unsatisfied with his job, maybe.. maybe not interested in teaching? Had an incredibly negative experience, and I earned my BA in art history.

Seyller is most likely the worst professor I have had in my college career. I was intrigued by the subject matter at first but now dislike it simply becuase he has made it a miserable experience. He mumbles during lectures, shows little respect for students, regularly keeping us 5-10 mins after class ends. Shows no passion, very dull lectures.
