As professor August is simultaneously awesome and not so awesome. The good: He knows his stuff, he very nice, will answer questions, and is very informal in style. The Bad:His informality can lead to some overly long tangents. As for the specific class:There were A LOT of readings, but they were interesting and you get a study guide. Loved the class

Professor Nimtz is awesome. If you complain about the readings, I'm not sure why you're in these high level poli sci courses. They're incredibly interesting, anyway. His study guides are pretty good. Not too much or too little information, and he is great at sticking around or being at office hours for questions. His late night emails are the best.

Nimtz is dope. He teaches life, which is the struggle of labor and capitalist classes. If you don't agree with this then take the class. He encourages dissenting view points, but he's smart enough to convince you otherwise. Get ready to rise up in communist revolution if you take his class...Go to lecture and you'll be fine for tests/papers.

I really, really loved August Nimtz' class. He is an extremely intelligent man- so, so knowledgeable about the African continent, Cuba, and he gives a fresh point of view about communism. Their is a LOT of reading, but his class is completely worth it. I learned so much.

His courses consist of garbled Marxist diatribes and watching "Frontline" specials. The books are also from a Marxist perspective, and no time or material is dedicated to opposing theories pertaining to politics in Africa. I have nothing against Marxism or Marxists per se, but Dr. Nimtz engages in demagoguery and indoctrination, not education.

POL 3739 - 4463 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

The class is very interesting. He brings diversity to the otherwise an otherwise homogenous department. The trick to getting an A in his class is to attend and furiously take notes. His tests aren't hard, he answers his own study guide questions throughout the lectures so if you are taking notes you will find the answers and the relevant readings

Interesting class. Lectures a bit disjointed and scattered but I enjoyed them. Felt like I have a better knowledge the course subject. Need to take notes and reference notes/readings during midterm & final. Relatively easy A

I wanted to like him and I wanted to like his class. I feel like I learned so little. His lectures were horribly disorganized and not at all interesting. I am sympathetic to his socialist leanings, but if you're going to make huge claims about the evils of capitalism, you have to have some empirical evidence to back it up. I would not recommendhim

Horribly unorganized lectures that go off in tangents in all sorts of places. It wouldn't be too bad except I felt like I never learned anything real in this class. Other than that, it was an easy A if you study for the midterm & final exams. Oh, and there's over 150 pages of reading required each week, but most of it you won't have to do.

Nimtz LOVES Cuba. Ridiculous amount of reading; get a study group. Exam prompts don't leave much room for disagreement and the grading is rather harsh. Be sure to use lots of keywords in papers, just to show that you did all the reading, as opposed to going into detail on the concepts. Office hours are helpful as well.
