Best teacher ever. She brought a critical way of seeing the world that is rare and uncommon. She focuses alot on her students learning. Thanks Benita

BEST CLASS EVER! Best prof ever. Connected really well with the material Benita taught and her style of teaching. She ensures it's a safe space for poc, lgbtqia, and women. She kicks ass with teaching, and you learn a lot about privilege. The bad reviews you see here are from ignorant students who don't want to confront their own privilege.

Hypocritical - treated students in opposition to standards of respect laid out in syllabus. Assumes the worst of the entire class in terms of class knowledge and respect. Avoids the major concerns brought to her about teaching style.

Benita has convincing knowledge about Canadian society but lacks teaching skills. She teaches one day out of the week (other day presentations) very vague with the policy paper and not as helpful for the final prep.

Benita is an amazing instructor if you are willing to critically examine both yourself and your own privileges and dominant societal discourses. She cares for her students deeply and engages with the material rigorously. Her knowledge is amazing and you can tell she's done her homework. Come prepared to engage.

AVOID! She is extremely hypocritical and biased. She does not listen to opinions that differ from her own. Shuts down students and forces them to take on her opinions in order to get good grades. Will never take a course with her again

Unfortunatly thinks she is an expert on teaching methods and does not clarify when needed. She was very passionate and good lecturer, yet horrible with emails. One assaignment was so unclear that most of the class did it wrong, yet when I asked her she just repeated the syllabus instructions and only after did she acknowledge a lack of clarity.

I really struggled during the course but now I can connect what we learnt in class with work and family. Dr. Bunjun was a hard teacher but now I get it.

quite a shock getting this prof after first term with rima. who takes attendance in 3rd yr with 100 ppl in a lecture? group presentations on readings every week, so she only actually lectured once/week. she didnt teach much, mostly readings. read everything for midterm the week before and got a 92 on it. policy paper was brutal. no final.

Dr. Bunjun's style of teaching is clear and she explained how to do the policy paper, including giving examples. I appreciated what she had to offer and would take a course with her again...she really made me rethink many aspects of Canadian society.

Dr. Bunjun is a passionate teacher and very knowledgable. She responded to my emails quickly and made the time to meet with me to discuss my policy paper. Excellent and kind teacher. I recommend course with Dr. Bunjun.

Not a bad class - She really links her lectures, so sometimes a little repetitive. Frustration is with the imbalance in the course from the work load of the first to second half, and the change of expectations. Also a lot of overlap which makes you wonder why you need 6 credits.

Absolutely awful teacher. Totally biased lectures, presents material to suit her opinions, terrible organization and just flat out boring. Everyone I have talked to feels the same way. AVOID.

The worst class I've ever had at UBC. Mandatory attendance, group presentations in a 100-person class, interesting material presented in an uninteresting way. Guidelines for ass'ts/midterm are complex, yet unclear. Rima's portion of this class is miles better, so get a good grade in Rima's class.

WMST 300 was an important course for learning about power, history, oppression, and social change. Instructor took time to explain course readings and terms. Enjoyed it very much.

It's not an easy course, and there are lots of readings you need to take in to do well on the assignments and final. Course material was very interesting and eye-opening, quite Aboriginal-centric. Benita has high expectations, but emailing her for clarification helped me meet some of them on the assignments. Put in the work, and it will pay off.

Absolutely loved this course! Challenged my assumptions and changed my perspectives in fundamental ways. There are a lot of articles to read, but it was well worth the work. Benita always answered my e-mails within the same day, and she was very clear and helpful with instructions. Excellent experience!

I found the instructor to be helpful and really accommodating. She took the time to explain the lessons. My experience was different from others, as the instructor always responded quickly to my emails. I highly recommend this distance education course.

wish i had seen this before taking the course by distance...it is brutal. way to many readings (76) and you needed to cite at least 3 for each of the 3 essays on the final. she does NOT respond to email and when she finally does, is not helpful. still waiting for final grade 4 weeks after final essay and exam were due...AVOID her at all costs.
