No textbook, but his notes are first-rate. I've never had a teacher grade homework and tests as quickly as he does. Some of the material is difficult but he explains it quite well. If you do the homework and use the exam study guides that he provides, you will do well on the tests.

I just completed my second course with Dr. Iwashita. I found both courses to be challenging yet interesting. Contrary to another post here, he is VERY helpful - he just won't tell you if your answer is correct. If you have a conceptual question, he's more than happy to help and is very responsive.

I have taken both Linear and Abstract Algebra and enjoyed both. The classes were tough, but the grading was fair and the information very clear. Another good instance of teacher created notes for the course.

I despised him! I didn't learn a thing from his class. He actually put the following in his syllabus: "I will NOT answer whether you have the right answer or not; you will know whether you have the right answer or not, when your homework is graded."

Dr. Iwashita is a great teacher. He presents the course material in a very clear and organized way and gives plenty of worked out examples for the homework. I have had two classes with him (Linear Algebra and Abstract Algebra) and have enjoyed both of them. I highly recommend this professor.

Dr. Iwashita was well organized and clear. All homework and tests were fair and challenging. I took Linear Algebra online and had no issues with contacting him with any questions. There was not a text to reference but his lecture notes were easy to follow. If you put the time and effort in you will pass the class.

Dr. Iwashita's Linear Algebra notes are, no question, the best material available on the subject. They're concise, to the point, and sans fluff. Notes and homework are representative of the exams. Complaints about him requiring a proctor are ridiculous. You're a math student: a proctored exam now and then won't - or shouldn't - bother you.

Online course but requires exams to be proctored! No other prof in department does this for online. Lecture material is very lengthy and...well, dry. Does not use text, provides own lecture materials/notes. Does not permit use of discussion board for helping fellow students.

Instructor made this course much easier than it could have been. Study guides for all tests were provided at least one week in advance of the tests. Solutions were also made available. If you knew the study guides, you would do well on the test. He was available but as a result of certain comments, I didn't feel comfortable asking certain ?'s.

Prof. Iwashita is very courteous and dedicated to teaching. This semester he has decided not to use the textbook and instead provides his own typed lessons which are much more helpful and clear than any mathematics text I've read. He grades things very quickly (typically less than 24 hrs) and provides a file with comments on what was incorrect.
