"Amazing lectures"

Really smart professor, exams are tough.

Terrible teacher. He expected students to understand concepts that should have been taught as a part of this course. He also expected people to speak up when something didn't make sense, but even when someone did it didn't help anyone with understanding. Book is also useless and not needed. Switch out of this class while you still can.

One of the worst professors I've ever had. No syllabus, no online grades, unfair test questions, useless textbook and impossible homework. He often loses focus and trails off in lecture, has trouble solving his own problems, and insults the intelligence of less adept students. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of his class.

Absolutely no help with anything and expects you to know things that you haven't even learned yet. Very rarely described anything in full and test were beyond hard and reasonably challenging. Homeworks rarely helped with the learning of the material. Learned more from a grader from another class in 1 hour than I learned from him in a couple weeks

He is the worst ever!!He is arrogant! Don't take any classes with him..His exams are tricky and the home works are a pain, plus the book is not useful at all.

Tough class. He's very interested in the subject material though, and explains everything clearly and helpfully. A bit boring, but come on. There's only so much you can do with regular expressions.

I just paid attention in class... got near perfects or perfects on all the homeworks and exams... probably had the highest grade in my class (or for that matter, probably the highest grade he had seen in years). If you are sharp and like theory of computation and have a strong background in mathematical logic, then this class should be easy.

He is probably the best professor I've had, he is VERY hard, he however explain everything step by step and will answer your questions after class if you stay and talk to him. his homeworks are very hard and will require a lot of work, he however curves a lot, I thought I had a C but I got a B+, if you want an easy grade, take it with someone else.

Someone commented he is rude, that is exactly correct; And someone commented he treated coldly less-adepts, that is also correct; if you ask questions, he will make you feel stupid and waste his time, even if your questions are really pertinent. Take his class if only you already know well the materials, but hey, who bothers to take it in that case

He's a very hard teacher, but grades on a pretty large curve. All his assignments are very challenging. I suggest going to class and reading the book every day.

He is one of the most intelligent teachers of all times. I had fun attending his classes, his discussions are intellectually stimulating, homeworks and exams were a bit hard, but nothing outside of scope. It's always helpful to see him tackle the problems in class, and have us discuss different approaches for problem.definitely gonna have him again

a theoretical mathematician shouldn't teach a database class. 'Nuff said. Makes mistakes and the class has to corrects, doesn't know the material until he opens his book. Changes assumptions & grades differently from one quarter to the next (I had prior notes on the EXACT material graded differently.) Teaches relational calculus when others don't.

This is actually a math course, but it's offered by the computer science department. This professor is too old to teach. Roughly every other line he writes on the chalk board has a mistake, he catches 1/4 of them, and someone in the class usually catches 1/2. The rest show up later when you're trying to study from notes you copied off the board.

I had a great time in this class. The entire class is just solving puzzles. Ken goes over a ton of examples which really helps. He likes to figure out problems on the spot which usually gives some insight into the thought process behind the solution, this also really helps.

Pretty smart guy, a little old fashioned (no course website/slides). 90% of the class time is discussion of solving various examples. He will wait till the class gets it right. Midterms are challenging and homework is very time consuming and a bit hit or miss. Late homework was allowed though. Not that bad.

Supowit made this class way harder than it needed to be. Often treated questions as stupid, but usually made an effort to make things clear. The midterm was ridiculous, there were only four problems. I got about a 50% and dropped the class. In comparison I'm taking 625 with Yusu Wang and got a B+ on the midterm. Avoid Supowit if you can.

Almost a complete lack of effort as an instructor. We never even got a syllabus. He didn't prepare well and wasted a huge amount of time trying to figure out examples which should have been worked out before class.

This is really CSE's advanced math course - you rarely get much more intellecually challenging in computer science courses; if you want more, register for a math sequence, fun stuff! Supowit taught the course well, but this course is just an introduction to computability, don't expect to go too deep into one topic or further than NP-Completeness.
