i'll be brief: Reads right off slides, but offers EC (a lot) random days, so show up. Test 1- Easy, Test 2-Crazy Hard. Don't do discussion Section, waste of time. Need to buy reader, since she uses it for EC. Don't buy book. Overall take her, but don't take test 2 lightly. She's nice though and tries to help as much as she can. Good Luck

Literally, super easy class. Take her. Don't bother taking it with the discussion section, its not very helpful. She reads right off slides, but she offers EC on random days, so you should go to lecture. take this class with her. I'm pretty sure half her test was from the old exam she gave us, like word for word.

Really cares about her students. Lecture is pretty much mandatory because the lecture exams are straight from her slides as well as from what she says about them. I thought the lab exams were a lot harder because you had to have remembered everything you've seen. Take lots of pictures! Don't bother getting the textbook. Just memorize EVERYTHING.

Easy class if you like plants. Lots of memorization to get an A in the class. Lectures are scattered and somewhat hard to follow. Goes off on tangents a lot. Lab is long and you must stay the entire time to get the TAs review. Overall interesting class, but not the best at UCD.

Sharman is great! She is obviously very enthusiastic about plant anatomy, and wants her students to gain a lot from the class. The labs are long and you won't usually get out early - but usually they are interesting, and if you use the time wisely it goes by pretty fast. The exams were fairly easy, and I'm pretty sure most of the class got A's.

Midterms are easy. Final is HARD(!), but miraculously curved. She also gives out so much extra credit. 30 people received A+'s my quarter. Lectures are also podcasted so you really need not go unless you are sure she is giving in-class extra credit. She doesn't make genetics super interesting but she is a very fair and nice teacher. Recommended.

Best and easiest profesor for plant biology. She is extremely enthusiastic of the topic. Lots of memorization, but not too difficult. Lab is long but we often get out early (and you do cool things like section and stain many kinds of plants). Extra credit was generous (we all got A/A+, some Bs). GPA booster (5 units!) Very fun and memorable class!

O'Neill killed any interest I had in genetics. She reads off her slides entirely, which is so boring! Sometimes she answers everything but the question you asked and a few of her questions on exams were not clear or plan out wrong. She did give a lot of extra credit, which was really good and curved the final. However, avoid if you can.

If you are majoring in plant sciences, this is the course for you. Sharman genuinely cares about her students and is very willing to engage students in conversation after class. Labs are interesting and the material isn't too difficult. Mostly A's & B's in the class.

This class requires a lot of memorizing. If you're good at that, then it's an easy A. If you have a good lower div botany background, it will make this class a breeze. The tests were slightly unorganized but easy. Sharman is a very nice lady, but I often felt like the TAs knew more than she did about plant anatomy. Lab was interesting sometimes.

I don't know what these people are talking about. If you call reading off the things on the slide without explaining thoroughly, then she's the prof for you. Also grading are so unfair. Lots of students including me signed a petition because she promised to set curve at B- but failed to do so. Afterward, she ignored all emails and closed chat room

Yeah! I totally agree! she's a very nice lady and she made genetics a very interesting topic. Of course, as with any other upper division class, reading the book is super important! she's very helpful and she cares a lot about students and she prepares very helpful handouts! great class!

Yeah! i totally agree! Prof. O'Neill was always really nice to the students and she really wanted us to understand genetics. I enjoyed her class and def recommend it! She's super helpful and it is what it is: you also need to study on your own like any other upper division class! she made genetics fun!

I think Dr. O'Neill did her best at teaching us genetics, and she made the class interesting. Of course, it is our responsability to alse read the book! I think it is unfair that we do not acknowledge all the effort she put into the class like preparing handouts and videos; she even had extra office hours (like no other prof I've ever taken!).

She was very enthusiastic and nice but not the best professor. The material she taught was basically review, I'm not sure why the class did so bad on tests. The tests were way long though and she def had bad time management during lectures. Tests included genetics problems, definitions, fill ins, and diagrams but you could get partial credit

she's not organized, and very unclear. she puts stuff on her ppts, doesnt go over it on class and is ambiguous as to if it will be on the exam. exams are extremely difficult. practice problems do not help, discussion was not helpful to me, but i heard the other TA (Carlos) was helpful. One good thing- extra credit. go to class, or you might miss th

this was her first quarter teaching this class and it showed, she had a lot of computer problems (partly user error, partly not) and she kept getting flustered. She needs some time management skills, she somehow did not get through all the info she wanted to in a 2 hr lecture. preparation for tests is mediocre. LOTS of extra credit...

Awful teacher. i had to teach myself the material. Her midterms were wayyyyyyy too long. The class is 2 hours long, yet she only gave us an hour and a half. when the class told her we did not have time to finish, she said she was doing us a favor by giving us the extra half hour, because the tests should only take 1 hour.

I really do not think O'Neill understands the material. As she talks she gets confused and has a ton of typos throughout her lectures. I took this class with her because I knew I'd get a good grade. If your MCB or Biochem you should take this with someone else b/c she only goes into depth as far as BIS 2A. Lots of EC opportunities.
