If you want an easy professor, go ahead and take it with him. HW problems are from the textbook, midterms are MCQs. If you want to actually learn something, though, he's useless. He oversimplifies the concepts in class to the point that they lose value. You can probably get an A just reading the textbook. His lectures just aren't worth your effort.

Got a good grade (A-), and even so I still come out of a semester with Shomali thinking he's my least favorite econ prof I've had here. (granted i've only had really good ones so far.) Doesn't do his job carefully (beware if he says he'll only test you on what he lectured on...you should prob just ignore that). Just not that sincere of a teacher.

Shomali is a nice guy but his lectures are too simplified for what was tested. Lectures are dry sometimes but his anecdotes are pretty entertaining. I didn't learn much and sections were often too rushed. If you get a good GSI it is really helpful.

Terrible professor. Nice guy, but lectures are incredibly pointless. Homework is graded on correctness, but many people cheat and just copy from the solution manual. Not sure that I really learned anything at all. Not a particularly difficult class, but I would not recommend it if you hope to actually learn something.

This prof does a disservice to economics. Stories about his stint at BofA or his recommendation to buy Citigroup in the summer of 2008 do not lend to an adequate understanding of macroeconomics. Midterms are easy, but do not test comprehension of applied macroeconomics. Not sure exactly what to get out of the course other than a grade.

Awful prof. Not interested in helping, tells the same stories over again about his banking career does not care about student comprehension!

Ridiculously easy prof. Not sure I learnt a lot though.Gives entertaining examples while lecturing. However, material covered in lecture is easier than the midterms/finals, so make sure to read the book.

Highly recommended! His exams were fair/easy and he asked us whether we wanted more MC or more problems on the exams. He was very funny and used great vivid examples in his lectures. He follows the textbook very closely and lectures from it. He usually only teaches in the summer, but he told us that he was offered to teach 101B for Fall '09. :)

one of the best econ professors. engaging lectures w/ rea life examples and personal stories, reasonable tests. quite an interesting and funny teacher.
