Econ 102
He is the most entertaining and engaging professor I have ever had (till now). There are very few bad things to say about him, if anything. He makes the concepts easy to understand and he makes it worth it to wake up at 7 and attend an 8am class. I decided to minor in econ after taking his class. He is a great professor.

I love Dirk and his teaching style, but disappointed with the way he handled the final. Some people didn't get out of there until an hour after they were done. Also, he didn't put up an answer key and i missed an A by two questions, when i thought I killed the final. Upset I didn't get an A cuz i started hard

Seriously the best professor at Penn State. You can tell he genuinely loves his job and what he teaches. I didn't mind having to get up at 945 to go to class, especially when there was a possibility you could win donuts... if you take econ and have the opportunity to take it with professor Mateer. DO IT.

What a guy! To engage a class of 200+ students while teaching them is no easy task but Dirk knows how to handle them. Do what you're supposed to and you'll enjoy the class while getting a good grade. High caliber professor would take any class with him again.

Awesome teacher! He makes a boring subject really interesting by showing funny videos in class and having students participate in in-class activities. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities so go to class and take advantage of the 110% for participation.

to be honest, i wasn't interested a lot about econ until I took this class. His tests are fair. He is a very unpredictable guy. keeps the class engaged. funnnnnnny

If you want an easy A take this class. He provides review questions before exams that are pretty much verbatim to what is on the exam. Just as a heads up the class really doesn't prepare you that much for other Econ classes. Just cause you love his class doesn't mean you should be an Econ major.

What a reliefe from all my engineering classes. Easy A for engineering students. Dirk is a good teacher and Econ is a really easy subject in my opinion.

Dirk made my 8am class interesting, and I didn't miss one. I am so glad to have had him, and would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Dirk is a great guy! He makes class fun and interesting and gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. He even has his own website with lectures and videos on it! Best class!

It is easy to get the 110% of participation if you go to class (you can probably skip 5 times and still get it). He puts up review questions before each exam and he has his own textbook online which is helpful. Test grades reflect how much you study so it's fair. He's entertaining so it's worthwhile to go to class and get the notes.

Dirk was honestly one of the best teachers I've had. I went to Lion Tutors before each exam, because some of the material is really difficult, but overall, I loved going to class. Also, you have a potential 110% extra credit points if you attend enough classes and participate. Don't leave PSU without taking ECON 102 with Dirk!

Really nice guy. Interesting class, but you need to study hard for exams. He is a great professor and incorporates tons of pop culture examples and fun games to make the class interesting. If you have to take econ, you want to take it with this guy.

Hes a great teacher, uses many methods to help you learn, such as demonstrations and text in answers. Probably the best ECON teach you can get.

Take the class with Dirk and you will understand the concepts crystal clear; he is good at "dumbing down" the info for you. Don't even bother buying the textbook; instead, read HIS book online because it's like reading his lecture and it's easy to follow along. If you come to class, participate, and just listen, you should get
