"Tests are tough" "Tests? Not many" "Skip class? You won't pass."

Great lecturer: If you have any interest in history whatsoever, this is the professor for you. Anyone who enjoys lectures will like this professor even more. Tests are purely memorization however, and each test covers quite a bit of information. be ready to study constantly if you want to pass these tests.

"Would take again" "Skip class? You won't pass."

I really enjoyed Dr Mitchener. One of the best history classes I've taken. He put together an excellent class on World War II in the Pacific. Take notes! He gives you the essay questions for the exam - normally 8 - and then breaks them into 3 groups of 2 from which you chose 1 from each group. Notes are best but he does have books you can also reference. Great class from a good perspective of where the Japanese were "coming from" and how the US won that war.

"Lectures are long" "Tests are tough"

The whole grade of this class depends on 4 exams only. If you mess up on one then it is hard to come back. He doesn't post any of his notes online and the only way to take notes is to listen to him and write it down. He goes fast and it's hard to catch everything he says.

"Skip class? You won't pass." "Tough Grader"

Love how he structures his classes. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests and doesn't ask for much else. You have to seriously pay attention though and show up to every class or else you will definitely miss something and it'll hurt you. Only complaint - didn't seem to follow the textbook and doesn't put things on blackboard

"Tough Grader"

It's important to show up every single day to take notes, and you take a lot of notes. I typed up probably 50+ pages of notes. He gives amazing reviews for the tests. The reviews are literally exactly what is going to be on the test: vocab, short essay, and long essay. Boring teacher, but if you work hard you could probably get an A.

"Clear grading criteria" "Skip class? You won't pass." "Lectures are long"

Super easy class. Attendance and taking detailed notes is a must. He gives out test reviews a couple of weeks beforehand, and all of the questions that will be on the test are on the review. I see no reason why anyone should make below an A in this class.

HIST 2620 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Mandatory Textbook Use: Barely cracked it open Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: A+

Great professor! His class is all lectures and attendance is mandatory. The grade is based on three exams only. The great thing about him is that he gives you a review a few weeks before the exam that tells you basically everything that's on it. He expects a lot of detail on test essay questions, so make sure you've prepared well for them.

His tests are super easy! He gives you a review a week before each test and as long as you take good notes, practice your short answers and essay beforehand and attend at least one SI session per test, you will do fine. I made a one hundred on each of his 4 tests. He even gives you a 15 point extra credit question on the final. Don't buy the text

This is a tough class compared to all the other basic core classes offered at UNT. He gives a review 2 weeks in advanced but expects you to know every little thing. if you study just the short answeres and fill in the blank you can pass the class if your not the best essay writer.

This class is super hard.. lucky we had ROBERT as an SI leader.. if you can take a section where he is the SI leader--- students recommend the class based on that and he pretty much helps you pass all the test.

This professor gives informative lectures, they are not fun, but they get a little interesting if you want it to. The grade is only from the 3 or 4 test during the semester, but he gives the best reviews 2 weeks prior. The T.A's offer many study sessions that help also. This is not your class if you don't want to study though,if you will, take it.

Hard course because there are many details to remember. Take good notes. Must attend all classes to grasp the necessary notes/information. Test reviews are excellent. Offers helpful study sessions with TA. Tests have some essay questions. Plan to write organized answers. Use flash cards for vocabulary.

Don't expect to be entertained by this professor, or even learn much. His lectures are straight from the textbook. The only positive about his class is that he gives you a study guide that includes all the questions that will be on the test. This class is all about memorization and regurgitation of the memorized information.

Very interesting professor and lecturer. I had no interest in the subject beforehand but he makes it very enjoyable. His tests are straightforward from the lectures, so if you take good notes you can just reproduce them. Didn't use the textbooks much, but weren't expensive to buy. Really great professor!

His tests are super hard with no word bank for 20 fill in the blanks, and then expects you to write a detailed essay. Unless you're an ace in history, don't take this class!

Dr. Mitchener class was very hard for me. I never missed a day of class, took descent notes and attended multiple SI meetings and I still pulled a "D" in his class. The tests were all verbatim memorization with NO term word bank, two short answer, and one essay question. Dr. Mitchener was a good instructor but just be prepared for his tests.

I had to retake this class with a different professor because I got a C. I read the book, went to every lecture, and studied-- I tried everything but I just can't pass his class. History was a piece of cake in high school but this class is frustratingly difficult. Nothing from the book is on the test but what you hear/see on the powerpoint slides.

I actually liked this class. If you attend class and take good notes on what he says you will ace the tests easily. Im not even that great of a student and aced every one. Plus sometimes youll get extra credit if you attend like the class before spring break and stuff. You only have tests, no homework or reading or anything :)

Difficult class as always, relying heavily on a slew of textbooks. Tests are graduate-level and include essays entirely on reading materials, with a difficult, but doable paper. Lectures can meander a bit, but always provide sorely needed context to 15th, 16th, and 17th century maritime affairs. Excellent class if you are up for a challenge.
