"Participation matters" "Respected by students" "Gives good feedback"

Bryan is an awesome guy. If you are willing to speak your opinions in class, he respects that and values that in his students. Don't sit in silence. Think, speak and argue. That's how you'll get an A. Take his classes. They gave me tools for the real world and helped me become me. Couldn't ask for a better teacher.

Phil 1000 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: C

yeh, he bakes cookie but that only after people start deciding whether hate him or not. he is a harsh grader, I believe that i could at least get a C+ or even a B- but he gave me a C and ruined my GPA which i need to put in a lot of effort to get it back. his final is hard to get high grade, even you are familiar to all material.

Don't let Professor Frances scare you too much ;) He comes off scary and strict but I'd say the number one thing he values is you asking QUESTIONS and THINKING FOR YOURSELF. I got lazy with the reading but I at least did those two things and certainly didn't fail the course. Take him, he's a good challenge.

Does not give individual comments on the essays. TOO MUCH reading. Tricky quizzes. GPA killer

Hard. Hard hard professor. But everyone should take a class with a professor that challenges literally everything you do/say at least once. He is brilliant and he pushes you to think WAY outside the box, as he says, you must go beyond the lectures. He truly demonstrates the vigor and teaching style that Jesuit college professors should have.

He occasionally bakes cookies and brings them into class! A lot of this class is based on opinion. If you defend your view using meaningful and smart evidence, then you can't be wrong! But I did not like that he made the class buy his book, it was a cheap way to sell his book.

PHIL3235 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

BEST EVER. Seriously a brilliant, helpful, interesting, funny, and easy to get along with. He is so invested in his students that one time I told him I was having trouble in another class and he went out of his way and asked that teacher what was wrong so that he could try and help me out. A wonderful person who has a lot to offer his students.

Great professor. He isn't full of energy but he knows his stuff extremely well and leads interesting discussions. Tough grader but is really helpful and understanding. Show him that you work hard and you will do well.

Complete waste of time. He allows useless class discussions where students literally complain for an hour (I've timed it). Treats himself like a joke, and when people respond the same way he gets angry. Topics we talked about were not useful or interesting in the least.

PHIL1200 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Such a waste of my time. Monotonous tone makes you doze off , he repeatedly uses the same examples in lectures, and grades harshly on essays. GPA killer, uninteresting, avoid. Dont take it because you need to fulfill your core req. You will regret it. Find another professor.

one of the best professors i had at fclc. if you pay attention and participate in discussions, you'll do well. You should at least skim readings but if you pay attention to discussion you won't need to know them thoroughly, he goes over them. t/f tests are hard but his grading curve is fair. he's funny and passionate about his class.

He is extremely smart & loves philosophy immensely. The class is interesting and he is naturally funny. 2 t/f tests that are very hard, 2 papers-less hard. He doesn't respond to emails and doesn't give good feedback on papers. If you pay attention in class, you dont need to do the reading.

I had Professor Frances for Philosophy of Human Nature. It was hard work and the papers are difficult but I thought he was a fair grader. The exams (midterm and final) comprise of true or false questions, which is difficult. But there is a review the class before the exam. Even though it's not an easy A, I'd love to take another of his classes.

PHIL1000 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

If you're not a philosophy major/buff, DO NOT take his class. Midterm was confusing, he grades on a curve and apparently knows by the first week or so who will fail the course. Only helpful if he wants you to pass. Syllabus is 9pgs long, outlining how not doing things exactly as he wants will get you a C or lower. He should not teach a core class.

Agree with December 07 evaluation. Gives appearance of being Mr. Niceguy. Philosopher/Mathematician first, teacher far second. Arrogant. If you don't get it, too bad for you. Find another Professor if you are not a Philosophy Major.
