cool class. the professor was kind of serious in the beginning, but loosened up a lot as the class went on. do the reading and you should be able to get an A

PH183 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

I wasn't going into the class expecting much and his first lecture was pretty standard. I've really gotten into the material, though, in large part due to professor Hook's genuine enthusiasm for the subject. He's not the most animated lecturer, but is passionate, encourages participation and his quizzes and tests are challenging, but fair.

I found Prof. Hook to be clear and fair. The class is challenging, but if you take the time to study like a mature student and learn from his great body of knowledge, you might just enjoy yourself and get an A. Don't take if you're looking for an easy A - it seems many PH and MCB students made this mistake thinking it would be a "soft" class.

he has no syllabus. i asked him once to please be specific about what readings we need to have done by which dates so that we can prepare for class. he refused because he feels like he's signing a contract. he wont specify details emphasized on exams, for the same reason. he gives long winded answers that are completely off topic from the question.

worst professor i've ever had. incredibly disorganized, not responsive to questions, talks too quietly (cant hear), mumbles a lot, rambles, writes horrible tests, assigns reading topics alphabetically instead of when they need to be read by (so we have to guess what the reading for each class is), doesn't really understand what's going on at all...

He is quiet, unclear, disorganized. He is probably the worst professor I have ever had. The lectures are very hard to sit through. I do not understand how a man can make something so interesting so boring. The whole class failed the tests and he curves them.

20 years ago i bet he was an incredible teacher, but he is sadly way past his prime. very sweet and knowledgable old man but the lectures are PAINFUL - slow and disorganized, plus he mutters so youre always guessing at what he's saying. on the upside, everyone fails the tests and the class is curved so its not that bad grade-wise.
