Great class. Lots of reading. Students get to lead the discussions. I respect Dr. Cozart a lot. The discussions make it all worthwhile.

USEM171 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

This is probably one of the most interesting and worthwhile classes I have taken at UVA, even though it's only a 2 credit USEM. There are a lot of writing & reading involved, but you can prob get away with not reading each week. This class has given me a whole new perspective of racism in our world today. Just do the work, and you can prob get an A

USEM171 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

LOTS of reading required for this class!!! It's hard to believe how much reading only counts for 2 credits--5 books, each a couple hundred pages. You read a book every 2 weeks and have to write a 2 page journal for every class. Each class is led by students and she can tend to fall asleep in them. VERY difficult to stay awake in, but VERY easy

This is a great class, and I really recommend that anyone take it. You learn so much and it's really interesting. She's a great teacher, too.

USem: Brown Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

LOTS of work. Read about a book a week sometimes more. Def. more work than most USems BUT you learn a lot too. Journal every week but they aren't bad just time consuming, Class runs over a bit, don't schedule a 3 o'clock too far away. She also has a way of coming off as mean but she's really not, she's just assertive. Overall good class..

A lot of work, not just for a two credit class but for any class. So if you're just looking for an any USEM look elsewhere Be warned. But absolutely worth it. Most rewarding class I've taken. Hard to express in this short a space how much I respect Dr. Cozart, and how much I got from this class.

Her USEM on Brown v Board is an interesting class, but a lot of work for two credits. You'll read half a dozen books, write several papers, and present one of them at the end of the semester (there's also a weekly journal). The discussions and readings make it all worth your time, but don't go in expecting a minimal workload.
