As a person he is very nice but as a student he is very tough. His assignments are't clear because he doesn't use handouts. He is a very tough critic, to the point of annoyance and he greatly lacks structure.

Nice guy but really snobby towards those struggling to make an effort and treats people who have trouble bettering their drawings as slackers.

Insightful and very helpful, constanly challenges you to your benefit, very deep crits(questions your mark making particuarly), overall a really cool guy. Definitely for those who need to improve their anatomy/figure drawing.

Great guy, really helps you with your figure drawing and anatomy. Don't take this class if you're already a strong figure drawer though, because that's all you do. He has one semester-long homework assignment which is also your final and that's it.

Phil does a great job when it comes to teaching COMIC BOOK drawing. He knows all of the tips and tricks of how to create motion, depth, and weight in your drawings. The only issue that I ever had was the fact that he draws over your sketches with a pencil that is extremely hard to erase.
