Sawicki is a clear and straight to the point teacher. He is extremely helpful and is always willing to clear up any confusions. The subject itself is tough and he grades really tough as well. Will deduct points like there is no tomorrow. Attendance is not mandatory, but your grade will really reflect that. Study guides saved me.

As long as you attend class and follow the study guide, you are pretty much good to go! One thing that bothered me, though, was that I emailed him at the beginning of the semester and never received a response or acknowledgement of that email.

The study guide tells you EXACTLY what will be on his tests. Extremely clear, and will go over the material repeatedly to make sure everyone is learning. He's about as easy as any professor can be considering the material. Super nice guy.

He's a good professor. He explains everything pretty clearly and is always willing to answer questions. Attendance isn't mandatory b/c he doesn't take attendance, but make sure you go on the day he hands out the study guide. The first test is difficult, but the second one is easier. Just study for the tests and you will pass with a decent grade.

The material in 303 can be pretty challenging, but Sawicki is very straight forward about what he expects. The review sheets he gives out before the test (make sure you go to class to get them) make it easy to get an A. And he'll pass you out of the class if you do well enough on the final. Sometimes boring, but manageable class. Highly Recomm!

This class was horrible! Sawicki just needs to retire all ready. Going to class is pointless, he talks to the board and is not willing to help. The course packets are necessary, they go over everything u need 2 know 2 get an A. If you have the ability to teach yourself and never want to class then take this guy. Other wise, avoid him at all coast.

Boring class and I think it was hard, even when I went to class it was hard. I think he just relies on hoping that you'll understand based off his lectures and no hw really. He's a nice man though and says his goal is to get you out of 303 in one try.. haha

Yeah it kinda does sound like the first comment was written by Sawicki hahaha. Anyway, make it to class and pay attention, ask questions, and do the homework. It is a very simple class, but not necessarily easy. I like grammar and have always been good at it, however, when I missed class, it hindered me for the exams.

It was my 2nd X taking this class (diff. teacher last time) Lectures are clear and uses his own booklet, which is far better than the textbook. Homework not mandatory, No quizzes. Study the study guides (with a study group). Exams taken from study guide

I really liked him. He knows what he's talking about. He explains everything in detail so there is no confusion. His lectures can be boring, but informative. He gives a thorough study guide before each test. Test questions come from classwork. I'm not a big fan of english, but I got an A in his class. Come to class and pay attention!

I'd have to disagree with the previous poster. I was an English major with a 3.5 GPA, but I got a C- in this class. He was confusing and unhelpful. Plus, his lectures are really boring. I hated that class.

Structure of Modern Eng is infamous for its difficulty, but Dr. Sawicki is very helpful and clear in his explanations. His goal is to teach this generally groaned-about subject successfully so students only have to take the class once. If you have to take this class, take it with J. Sawicki.
