Prepare to teach yourself. You wont understand anything from him because he has a very thick accent. I tried recording him and replaying, but the accent was too thick to understand. His exams are easy though.

"Skip class? You won't pass." "Clear grading criteria" "Big time extra credit"

He has an accent but if you can get past that - lectures are clear and he is knowledgeable, and also very approachable and nice. Prac midterms are reflective of actual midterms but actual final harder than prac final. Very clear about what he wants you to know. If you can't get past the accent it is a lot of work but not impossible to get an A.

Thick accent and monotone. I had no idea what he was saying. I wrote down everything he wrote and hoped it was enough. 3 midterms with 15 multiple choice questions, and drops the one with the lowest score. Final was 30 questions. I put little effort into this class, and still passed, but I despised this class. Terrible structure. Not worthwhile.

"Tests are tough"

I thought I was good at Statistics until this course. Book was hard to follow, and you had no other option as Prof. Debashis, although he tried, was not effective. Hard to understand and not many examples you could follow. My advice is print the practice exam solutions as part of your allowed notes. I didn't do that until the final and regret it.

"Get ready to read"

Three years into college, this is by far the worst class I've taken. Lectures are useless as you can't understand a word that is said. Office hours are next to worthless because the concepts are not clearly explained. Tests were ok until the final which was very different than anything we had done all semester. Wait for another professor!!

"Get ready to read"

This class was ridiculous. I would say max only 50500 students show up to lecture due to the fact that it isn't helpful at all. He derives formulas but rarely shows us how to use them. Be prepared to self teach yourself Statistics by learning it from the book. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone.

Prepare to teach yourself. He spend the entire class conducting proofs leading to a formula. Does not show you how to use it. Does not use practical enough examples. This class was miserable

I for one enjoyed his class and would gladly take another from him. His lectures were understandable even with his accent and the handouts, while long, were extremely helpful. Office hours were good too as he always answered my questions.

What was really what made this class enjoyable for me was that I knew exactly what was expected of me at all times. Lecture notes were clear, textbook was useful, and, most importantly, practice tests were representative of the exams, as was the homework. Thus, the more work you did, the better grade you got. Plus, he's a really nice guy.

Terrible! Impossible to follow lectures, had to rely on the book and handouts to even attempt the homework. I would highly recommend waiting to take this class when a different professor is teaching it.

Impossible to understand and follow his lectures. Probably one of the worst professors i've had during my college career. However, the handout notes as well as the ones he writes on the board are helpful and the tests weren't too bad. Would NOT recommend taking this course overall!!

You do not need to go to class. He is impossible to understand, and it has less to do with his accent and more to do with his talking into the board. I never went to section. Practice midterms/final are very accurate & you get note sheets. I spent ~2 hours making my final note sheet and got an 85. You'll need to teach yourself, do the homework.

Other STA13 students with different profs have reported that the class was boring but a cinch. I must have been a loser in the registrastion lottery, then, because I sturggled immensely. I hate getting anything less than an A and can usually make myself care, but this prof never gave sufficient examples, nor did he explain himself clearly.

Pretty easy class you could probably do pretty good in just by reading the first 10 chapters of the book, professor did a decent job explaining things, heavy indian/english accent but still understandable

Professor Paul is actually a very good instructor. He conveys the concepts well, and uses relevant examples. As with all math, students have to understand how to APPLY techniques in different situations. He gives a front-back page of notes; no complaints here!

Did not learn anything in his class. He is hard to understand and boring, I went to all the lectures at first, until I realized that since I slept through them anyways, might as well just not go and sleep in my own room.

AWFUL. Can't understand what he wants us to learn, doesn't give any examples and expects us to learn the math ourselves. Test are unfairly weighted. ONLY 20 points as I recall 18=B 16=C, which only gives a few points difference between a D and an A.

Really generous with grading on HW and tests. knows his stuff really well and is very helpful if you talk to him outside of class. his accent really isn't too bad at all. not necessary to go to class..all material is in the book, but he gives a good summary of the reading material in class. MT2 was almost exactly like the practice midterm.
