What was really what made this class enjoyable for me was that I knew exactly what was expected of me at all times. Lecture notes were clear, textbook was useful, and, most importantly, practice tests were representative of the exams, as was the homework. Thus, the more work you did, the better grade you got. Plus, he's a really nice guy.

Terrible! Impossible to follow lectures, had to rely on the book and handouts to even attempt the homework. I would highly recommend waiting to take this class when a different professor is teaching it.

Impossible to understand and follow his lectures. Probably one of the worst professors i've had during my college career. However, the handout notes as well as the ones he writes on the board are helpful and the tests weren't too bad. Would NOT recommend taking this course overall!!

You do not need to go to class. He is impossible to understand, and it has less to do with his accent and more to do with his talking into the board. I never went to section. Practice midterms/final are very accurate & you get note sheets. I spent ~2 hours making my final note sheet and got an 85. You'll need to teach yourself, do the homework.

Other STA13 students with different profs have reported that the class was boring but a cinch. I must have been a loser in the registrastion lottery, then, because I sturggled immensely. I hate getting anything less than an A and can usually make myself care, but this prof never gave sufficient examples, nor did he explain himself clearly.

Pretty easy class you could probably do pretty good in just by reading the first 10 chapters of the book, professor did a decent job explaining things, heavy indian/english accent but still understandable

Professor Paul is actually a very good instructor. He conveys the concepts well, and uses relevant examples. As with all math, students have to understand how to APPLY techniques in different situations. He gives a front-back page of notes; no complaints here!

Did not learn anything in his class. He is hard to understand and boring, I went to all the lectures at first, until I realized that since I slept through them anyways, might as well just not go and sleep in my own room.

AWFUL. Can't understand what he wants us to learn, doesn't give any examples and expects us to learn the math ourselves. Test are unfairly weighted. ONLY 20 points as I recall 18=B 16=C, which only gives a few points difference between a D and an A.

Really generous with grading on HW and tests. knows his stuff really well and is very helpful if you talk to him outside of class. his accent really isn't too bad at all. not necessary to go to class..all material is in the book, but he gives a good summary of the reading material in class. MT2 was almost exactly like the practice midterm.

He knows his stats, but he is such a bad teacher. His lectures are so unhelpful. He basically writes out what's in the textbook. Stats 103 is basically the same class as Stats 13, which I had an excellent teacher for (Kerr), but Debashis makes the same material seem twice as confusing. His tests are graded unfairly as well.

Although he is a super nice and humble guy if you go to office hours or get to know him outside of class, his lectures were very confusing and it was hard to pass the class...also, most of the TAs had thick accents as well and that made it very difficult to understand them. Considering this is just his first year at UCD, I think he'll improve.

yes, his accent is deplorable, no, his lectures don't really help you to learn stats, no you won't really know anything about stats after taking this class, but YES, you well get an easy A. easy as all hell. did sudoku in lecture, homework the hour before class and studied the day of midterms. dunno why everyone else had problems, i suck at math.

He is very unclear while he lectures in class. His writing is not the best and he will jump back and worth while he is lecturing. His examples are often times unclear, but his midterms weren't too hard, and he provides practice midterms and finals, but the final seemed a little on the harder side with some things he did not cover in class.

This professor can't speak english very well nor can he write clear. My TA couldn't speak english as well. I really had to teach myself the material. THe only good this was he allowed the practice final, lecture notes, and midterm solutions for the final. I can't complain, i got a B+ in the class but i would have rather had a diff. professor.

I hated this teacher. I could never understand him and he had bad examples and he made the final harder than it should have been.

Wow, how is this guy a professor at Davis? His lectures are a joke as he can't speak or write on a chalkboard to save his life. NO one goes to lecture as it's impossible to learn from him. Hope your TA is awesome, I passed the class thanks to a guy named Michael Schick. He should be the prof!

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but his thick accent and confusing roundabout way of teaching made statistics - usually an easy subject - way hard. His midterms and the final were tough, and it was hard to even pass the class. Also, some of his TAs had super thick accents too, making discussions virtually useless.
