Quantum is a tough class and I don't think she's the best teacher, however at least she tries! She's super smart and thinks we are too...so some of her explanations go over our heads. But she holds extra weekend sessions to go over lecture material which help a lot. Her exams are also very fair. However, to do well you have to show up to class.

Kim makes you think she likes you, but she doesn't. She is completely incapable of teaching, cannot explain anything, knows nothing. Does she have a BS? Worst professor ever, probably got hired because a minority female. Unorganized lectures that go nowhere. Took her frustrations out on us on the final. Can't talk to her without her getting mad.

easiest upper div chem class you will ever take. dont need to study at all to get an A+. quizzes were a joke, as well as the midterm and final. this IS THE CLASS to slack off in.

Difficult class for sure. Pop quizzes and in-class questions. Keep up with the hw but also REREAD lecture materials for the quizzes (I could have done so much better on quizzes had I reread the lectures). Exams easier than expected. Good prof overall. I got A's in both 126 and 127 with her.

Very methodical class in terms of getting good grades. The quizzes are derived straight from the hw so as long as you do the hw and understand them. The exams are avg in difficulty, she drops hints here and there about what she may ask. Class was painfully boring but she was a good lecturer in terms of presenting info not entertainment.

She really has a passion for chemistry. Be prepared to work hard and do a lot of calculations. Her midterms and final were mostly representative of the lectures/book and had good curves. Its not an easy class, but is not impossible either, just devote a lot of time to reading and understanding the formulas and concepts.

The class wasn't that bad. Midterms were out of class and even on a friday night which sucked, but overall the tests were pretty fair. The final was pretty much questions straight out of lecture, even using the exact same numbers. I still felt I learned something and overall she taught well.

Ridiculously hard. Midterms and finals were completely different from what she taught.

Her class is impossible. Midterms + Final = All Open Ended questions. She expects a lot! A LOT! It's as if we should understand as well as she does. Even her homework is ridiculously hard. I had to read the book to understand what she was teaching. She grades on a curve though so it's okay. But she's probably one of the hardest prof I've taken.

Her lectures are VERY quick. It's hard to write everything down on the board. It's almost impossible to listen to her talk while writing everything down. HOWEVER she writes everything on the board very concisely. She really isn't as hard as other people say she is.

she is nice but crazy hard. she went to MIT + thinks everyone else did too. tests are unlike sample tests/ hmwrk. test probs are totally unique. grades on standard curve. removes any scores from those who drop which screws the curve b/c A LOT drop. she goes faster than you can learn. her notes = exactly the book. i get straight As and im struggling

Here's some perspective: Midterm 1- multiple choice. Around 15 questions (i think?), TOTAL guess, got around four correct- ended up a B+. When guessing gets you higher grade then studying, something's wrong.

Great lecturer, HORRIBLE TESTS! Never taught undergrad class, graduated MIT, no wonder her tests are hard. She says science is a competitive field: i agree but a 30% ave for undergrad gen chem is a little "too much".

This was one of the hardest classes I've taken. Sometimes I got frustrated because all my studying didn't seem to make a difference on the tests. However, I think Kim is a good lecturer and she cares about her students. The averages were low but the curve makes up for it. Just read the book multiple times and work practice problems like crazy.

i had a B+ going into the final. I believe I just failed my final exam. Her tests never reflect what she teaches. After her first midterm, her reply to why her tests didn't cover the topics she talked about was "That's ridiculous! Why would I review the stuff I'm going to put on my test?" Because that's what a midterm review session is, you moron.

hardest chem teacher i took at ucsd...all her questions from the test are not in the hw or lecture...first midterm average was 38%, and over 60 students drop out..avoid at all cost for lower division science courses..but as a person, she's very nice and willing to help students

Some of these comments are truly horrible. Yah, ur grades might be suffering because Prof Kim likes to test hard, but science is a very competitive field and you'll benefit from the kind of knowledge she's trying to give you. I'm struggling too, but this is the best class I'm taking this quarter. Just read the book and do the examples & u'll do ok
