PoliSci 203 Taken for Credit:Yes Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: Not sure yet

One of the worst courses I've ever taken. I understood about 50% of what he said due to his thick accent. When I did understand, I would try to participate & give my own opinions.. don't do this. He is not open to the idea that any opinion other than his own is correct. He also is technologically illiterate and is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with.

"Skip class? You won't pass." "Lectures are long" "Get ready to read"

Roberto Alejandro is extremely passionate about what he teaches... it'd... just be nicer if I could understand what he was saying over his extremely thick Spanish accent. He also tends to ramble in his lectures. Also, his policy for this course is, 4 absences drops a letter grade, 5 is a fail.

"Get ready to read"

He just puts up a bunch of random notes and phrases and then talks about whatever he feels like, I've learned mostly from my TA. If Professor Alejandro were to put up on a power point his grocery list and then go on to talk about his thought on racism in relation to professional sports during a class on American Politics I would not be surprised.

Do not take his Class he is completely unhelpful during lectures and gives you 5 days to write 6 page papers with about 10 hours of research behind it. The TA’s give no assistance in helping you understand the lectures and this class will just make you stressed.

POLISCI 171 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Completely disorganized professor, directions for midterm essay were no help what so ever. My TA, a female, was on a constant power trip the entire semester and provided little help with assignments. The lecture notes only help because they provide you with the specific quotes in readings which show you what's most important in the readings.

Polisci171 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Barely cracked it open Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

This class is the most disorganized course you will take at Umass. His slides are a bunch of quotes and he doesn't title them. Attendance is taken and he makes the class mandatory. He is very confusing and hard to understand as well. This class really goes nowhere. Don't take this class if you don't have to you'll just regret it

This professor is awful. He is very difficult to understand and he is incredibly boring in class. The class is so disorganized which is not helpful at all trying to keep everything together all semester. Don't take a class with this guy.

The Professor is good at what he does, but it's extremely hard to understand him with his accent. His slides aren't very detailed and are not posted online. The best way to pass this class is to do your readings and pay attention in discussions. Your TA is your best friend.

For an intro level theory class, this class was ridiculous. He talks in circles and barely addresses a point. Did I learn anything about American Political Thought? No. Did I learn a lot about the federalist/anti federalist? Yes. Is anything I learned in this class applicable? NO! Don't take this class. Don't take this class. Don't take this class

Hard to understand between accent and pacing. WAY too much reading assigned for a ged-ed. Also, mandatory attendance, but poor check-in system.

This class is perhaps the most intriguing class I have ever taken. Sure the course was difficult, but nothing should be too easy to learn. His confident enthusiasm strikes a pivotal chord within me that is essential for any speaker to have in order to peak interest. Everything I have learned will be vital to the overall sythesis of who I am to be.

A teacher whose quality cannot be judged independently of the complex subject matter taught. Political philosophy - by nature critical, challenging and normative - asks as much of the student as the teacher. In such cases the best a teacher can do, is ask you to bring the best of yourself - liberal and supportive Dr Alejandro is a true maestro

I'm a polisci major and even though i got an A in the class it had very little to do with the professor. His lectures are disorganized. I literally could only understand 1 out of every 10 words he said. I had a great TA who explained everything at Discussion. Be sure to sit near the front to try to understand him if you do take a class with him.

Unfortunately Political Theory was a bit of a disappointing class. Professor Alejandro knows a lot about the subject but does a terrible job teaching it. The class is highly unstructured, its difficult to tell what you're supposed to be reading and doing from class to class. Luckily the work is easy enough to do well on by itself.

Amazing Professor, hands down. I would recommend waiting to take with Alejandro until you've had a year or so of PoliSci/College under your belt. This way, you'll get more out of the class. He is invigorating and truly loves what he is teaching. Don't leave UMass without taking with him!!

Roberto Alejandro is amazing! He is completely into what he teaches, and inspires students to care about political philosophy. His accent, personality and theatrics make the class fun and interesting. Do the readings, go to class, take notes, and you will do fine, and have fun!

Alejandro is the most compelling, interesting teacher I've had at UMass. He makes lectures exciting...even if attendance wasn't mandatory I'd still have gone to class every day just to hear him speak.

One of the smartest men I've ever met. Go to lecture, take notes, learn to understand his accent. If you don't want to work - not just busy work, actual thought - stay away. If you do accept the challenge, his class could change your life - no joke! Changed the way I look at the world.
