A classmate once angrily told me about the burning of Columbia, SC. He was very angry but when I pointed out to him that the event had taken place almost 150 years ago it stopped him cold. "Why the way Dr. Aiken was talking," he said, "I thought it might have happened last Tuesday."

so so easy. he is really biased toward the south, so don't dare go against what he has to say. Just listen in class and write down things he says and you have your papers written, not bad at all, and you don't have to attend class, but it does help, just gets boring after 11 straight weeks of gone with the wind..

This man is a pathetic excuse for an English professor. Because of this, however, his class is rediculously easy to get an A in. He hold extremist neo-Confederate views, but if you pretend to agree with him you'l get an A. Don't even think of arguing with him or write anything in a paper he doesn't agree with, or you will receive a poor grade.

I absolutely love this man! He loves the South and is so passionate about teaching and taking care of his students. I have never cared about the Civil War until I took his class.

Definately the easiest english I have EVER taken. Just pay attention in class, copy down what he says and you basically have your papers written. He is extremely biased but just agree with him and its an easy A!

Dr. Aiken takes an interesting approach to Literature. He exposes the student to "underground" texts, and attempts to reveal the other side of story when it comes to controversial topics. I enjoyed the rise that he gets out of some students. Learned a lot about the history of Charleston in his classes

I didn't like him at first because of his extreme biased teaching and offensive comments, but I learned to just deal. Bad with communication, doesn't use WebCT or have a clear syllabus or grading scale. Papers super easy and generously graded, reading quizzes super hard- gives you a quote and you have to explain it. learned nothing in this class

This is a very easy class. Dr. Aiken has some disturbing views, like his belief that slavery was a "mild institution," but if you pretend to agree you'l do fine. Bash the North and talk about how the South is superior, and you will get an A. He is very knowledgeable on Civil War history, so do not argue unless you now what you are talking about.

Dr. Aiken is really nice and SUPER easy. The only thing is he is very set on his beliefs. Don't disagree with him and you'll do fine. The papers are simple five paragraph essays like you do in middle school. He basically tells you everything he wants you to write and if you just write that you'll get an "A". Overall not a bad guy.

Good and easy Prof. Continually mention how William Gilmore Simms is amazing and how we are suffering because the Confederacy lost the war. This is what every paper is about so you'll do fine if you agree on everything he says in papers. Papers are only 2 pages except for one that is either 3 or 4. Is intense about comma splices, he hates them.

He is not difficult at all-but you have to write about his view points and agree with them. If you're from the South you'll be fine- If you're from the North he may dislike you. Also get used to claims he thinks are true such as, "Global warming exists because the Union won the war"

I liked the class but be aware of what you're signing up for. He is Southern through and through and that is what you study in class. Essays are easy if you write what he says in class. Always agree and you'll be fine. Sweet man.

i had him for 101 and 102. he was hilarious and easy. just agree with his viewpoints and you will get a good grade. never read a book while taking his classes hah.

I love this man. He is very quotable, very humorous, very opinionated, and very intelligent. Quite a bit of essays but he gives several topics to choose from, several readings, 1 research paper, and quote quizzes from the novels read. Not an easy A, but if you put in some effort you'll get a good grade.

Class was easy and interesting. Aiken holds typical Charlestonian views on the South. If you are a Yankee, DO NOT TAKE HIM! Papers were average. If you have problems or think a paper is hard you can go to him and he will help you with topics and ideas. He was extremely helpful and went out his way several times for me. I would take his class again.

if you are from the south or like it take him you will love the class. if youre a yankee you might want to think twice. dr. aiken is southern by the grace of god and doesnt hold back on his views of how the north infringed on southern rights. easy though and you will go over some great southern civil war poets like timrod. highly recomend

so, by luck i got this teacher, the class is the easiest i've ever had, he takes late papers with no grade deduction, he doesn't take roll much, as long as you know about fragments, run ons, and comma splices you will do good on the papers.. there are a lot of papers due but they're 1-2 pages long. Just agree with what he says, and you'll get an A

Dr. Aiken is a fun and easy teacher. Lets the class discuss with each other and enjoys teaching. HE IS VERY BIG ON THE SOUTH. It was more of a Charleston history class with essays, which were all easy. I would take him for 102 if his clases werent filled already.

Very boring guy, but very easy! He is easily persuaded and is an easy A! He takes attendence but doesn't take it seriously. I recommend this teacher!
