TESTS? NOT MANY
This class is an easy A if you do all the necessary work. He doesn't try to know the students, we're just a number to him. He doesn't have a clear grading criteria.. if you ask him how you're doing in class, he'll just say "look at your quiztest scores." He grades tests based on some method he creates while grading. |

LECTURES ARE LONG
Would never take a class with him again. Class was mostly him talking about his political opinions and judgments about everything. He had us read a stupid economic romance novel which we never discussed. Shuts down students who try to argue with him. The only good thing I got from this class is $1 for my pen during a "real-world trading" example. |

CLEAR GRADING CRITERIA
This class isn't so much an econ class as it is James Millers's Views on the World 101. The majority of the time is him preaching his libertarian political views and making "edgy" arguments. He's unwilling to teach both sides and gets a kick out of shooting down the arguments of students in an intro class with his PhD. Annoyingness level: 65. |

Love him! His class made my first semester at college amazing. You have to work hard, but it's rewarding in the end. |

I love this class, and James's personality. In the end, you will learn a lot, from his lecture, his textbook, the articles he assigns, his podcast, and so forth. I so enjoy reading his textbook; it is filled with amazing analysis and funny examples. Attend his class as he will explain the study questions, it is SUPER resourceful. |

I seriously don't recommend this class unless you are a big fan of debate or politics. More than half of the material was not actually covered in class and many of his examples were just somehow not correct. I basically self-taught myself the whole semester and it was not that fun. Personally I don't wanna take another class with him in the future |

Professor Miller reaffirmed my decision to become an economics major. He is energetic about his teaching and really cares about his students. If one has questions, he/she should approach him in his office hours. He's really helpful and fun to talk to. |

Jim's class is easy but it isn't enjoyable or helpful. He's more interested in politics than economics. Albeit, at times conversations are interesting, I signed up for this class to learn Micro and that didn't always happen. I'm sure he's a great person I just don't ever want to take a class with him again. |

I would highly recommend his Introductory Microeconomics class! He is an interesting professor and teaches his students to really look at the world in a new (and economic) light. He also tends to make inflammatory comments designed to incite debate, but I found that that added to the class and made it more engaging. |

If you go to the class, do hw problem sets, and read the textbook, then you should be fine. He is willing to help you out. very clear on grading. It might be hard for some who has strong opinion. I love his class because I feel like I am learning a lot. Highly recommended. |

Jimmy Miller is quite the character. He keeps the class refreshing and engaging while challenging students to think and no accept the world as they see it. My world would not be the same if I had not taken this class. He has me convinced I want to major in economics. Also, he provides Dating 101. This class is a 2 for 1. You must take it with him! |

Smith promises its students to think outside the box, go against the grain etc, and this class is the only one I've taken that sticks to that criteria. Great class, he is extremely approachable and will make you love the subject. Tests can be tricky, but everything is very doable.(Also, the people that don't like him are usually very narrow-minded) |

Apart from being complete insane (this includes his claim that his is a "target of the left wing") and his continuous references to his tenure battle with Smith, Jim is a fairly good teacher. Not easy to get along with, but he explains things well. He may make you a Republican. |

He would be a good prof if he stuck to teaching rather than using heavily biased examples to get his political views across. His tests also tend to be tricky; he tries to trick you rather than attempting to see if you genuinely know the material. Take this class w/ another prof if possible. |

He isn't a bad professor, and he does keep you engaged, however, he tries to trick you all the time on your exams. Yes, it is vary useful to study the problem sets, but every now and then he'll put a question that you've never seen before and make it worth 20 points!! I went to his office hours a lot, and he's sort of helpful. Don't read the book. |

Game Theory changed my life. Jim is the man; not only because he's brilliant and hilariously neoconservative, but because he resembles Jason Schwartzman from Slackers. |

Jim Miller was one of my absolute favorite professors at Smith. He is a clear teacher, and makes excellent use of examples to keep the class interesting and inspire debate. I highly recommend any of his classes! |

The worst professor I've ever had. Syllabus doesn't match with his examinations, exams are based on material not covered in class or the problem sets, he himself says his grading is "arbitrary," and he shows absolutely no concern for his students. He just wants to stand up and rant.
