GEOG 328
This class is more of Canadian history than geography. Expects a lot of reading! However, he provides lecture outlines online. In addition, his exams were fair. He doesn't care about attendance. Lectures are boring, but he is clear with topics.

Hes a good prof. Lectures can get boring but thats not his fault, its the course. He is extremely intelligent.

Nice prof, easy to understand. It is important to note however, this isn't your typical geography course and was definitely more like a history course, the least interesting course I took in my first year. Readings were long and uninteresting. I found essay questions on the exam to be quite complicated and not straightforward.

I remember walking out of some of his lectures with the feeling that my mind had been worked over with a cat o' nine tails. One time he started a brief history with: 'I remember when...' and as he related the story I found myself double checking to see that he was not over 200 years old.

He's got to be one of the most intelligent and eloquent profs at ubc by far---i found what the course covered was really broad (understandable for a first year course) and a straight up lecture might be daunting for some people, but he is just so knowledgeable that you learn so much. TAs determine your mark. Difficult to get an A, but worth it.

lectures are extremely boring. Dont need to attend it, because it's useless. Just read the assigned article and you will do well. The discussion group was just as useless, but attendence is mandatory. One of the most boring class in my 3 years in UBC so far.

HIS EYEBROWS NEVER STOP MOVING. HE USES RIDICULOUSLY LONG AND CONFUSING USELESS WORDS. LECTURES ARE CHOPPY AND DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE ADHD...SLEEP IS INEVITABLE. ALSO HIS EYEBROWS ARE WAYYY TOO DISTRACTING. DISCUSSION TA'S ARE WHACK

I thought this was a geography class, but it totally turned out to be a history class. So History 12 did help me in some ways. Final exam marking was really harsh. Don't take this class if you are an ESL student.

Extremely nice and helpful professor. I didn't have a GEOG background so did poorly on the midterm...I went to see him during office hours after that and my mark went up because he'll take the time to explain how to do better for the final. Go to class for the notes, start early on the book report.

Great guy...he is a good speaker, and maintains interest in otherwise dull material. He is a fair marker and very resonable.

Very simple struture...midterm, paper, final. He is very knowledgeable and his lectures easy to follow. I missed alot of class, so my marks suffered...if you miss class make sure to get the notes.

I enjoy having him teaching me the first half of geog 121. His lectures are easy to follow and i can always copy down stuff that he said or the stuff he puts on the overhead. Went to his office hours once and he was pretty helpful.

Wow, I loved his lectures and I wasn't at all interested before. He's inspired me to change my major. SO smart and SO beautiful. I'll miss seeing his gorgeous self 3 times a week ;( SO sad that he got married.

Matt is a wonderful prof for a 1st year to have. He's comical, animated & knowledgeable. I didn't do v. well in class, but that was my fault b/c I didn't read or participate in reviewing the articles. However, despite not doing hmk, I managed to scrape by w/ a B+, which just goes to show that this Matthew Perry look-a-like is great w/ explaining.
