The best professor at UCLA Extension program! Extremely tough, challenging but super rewarding learning experience! I wish all professors were as professional as Samuel Boutari!

Good Teacher, cares about his students and wont let you quit. He maybe a little redundant and bash his students when providing a false example but only because he wants students to do well on tests and exams.

MGMT 124B Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Initially I think he is a determined professor who can stand for almost 3 hours. He lets a student pay his textbook which is quite out to date but he keeps saying that it is always CPA exam. Some example question is still 2011 or even 2008!! Memorizing is quite a nightmare!! 30 pages exam is even evil!! I would not go with him any more class!

seven courses Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: A+

I took 7 courses from Dr. Boutari. I passed the CA CPA exam with some of the highest marks in the state. Want to be an excellent practicing accountant?--take Dr. Boutari's classes. He's great! He's not easy, but he's fair & he cares. (He doesn't prepare one well for the CPA exam? That's somewhat true, but true of all accounting profs.)

Z4760 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

He shames students for wrong answers in class. He does not want to explain carefully concepts. He encourages to ask questions, but when people do that, tell them this is a subject of another acctg course or just listen and study! This is awful! You should memorize everything from his text book for exam 30 pages long!. DO NOT recommend him!

MGMT124 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

"As" student comment:I would put this guy in my lowest hierarchy in the food chain. His knowledge of Accounting is very very outdated (or he's pretending that he knows when he doesn't)and useless for your CPA exam study. You will find many discrepancies between what he teaches and the stuffs from Beckers.Madoff of Accounting. That's what he is.

He has a good side--cares about students and is knowledgeable. But if you have a question he is often defensive or hostile, & acts as if you are challenging his authority by asking for a fuller explanation of a concept. He's accused many students of not listening he can't/won't explain a concept in detail. Take advanced acc'tg online if possible.

XL12 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

To pass Boutari's exams, you will need to memorize the contents of his custom course books. These course books consist mostly of definitions and lengthly lists with titles such as "strategic operating areas" and "internal auditing procedures". On the exams you will regurgitate these definitions and lists word for word.

All exam questions are from his own reader. He does not know how to explain concepts in words other than those written on his reader, and that is frustrating when you don't understand how you get certain new concepts. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

ACCTX122 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

He makes you purchase his self-published "text" for $100, without which you have have no hope of passing the class since the exams are based on it. Most of the info in his text is not transferable to the real world. I learned nothing from him, and passed the CPA test despite taking his class.

Sam Boutari is a fraud, bottom line. The first day of class he tells you that he only uses his so called "accounting text" and not the recommended text book that was written by real professionals... the text book you just spent $200.00 on. And if you ask him any questions from the text book he ignores you and only refers to his "accounting text."

If you like to memorize outdated, irrelevant information and want a dictator for an instuctor, this is the instructor for you. His exams are nothing more than his dogma. His view of the accounting world is archaic and of little use in the "real world". I would NEVER recommend this instructor.

Great professor! He's very intelligent and incredibly passionate when it comes to auditing. It rubbed off on me! In addition to the CPA, I'm now considering taking the CIA exam. His exams are challenging, but you can do well if you study hard and memorize everything!

I had Dr. Boutari for many accounting and auditing classes. His classes are not easy, but I learned a lot! I like the organization of his manual, and you know exactly what to expect. I passed the CPA on the first try and I owe a lot of that to Dr. Boutari.

Boutari lectures extremely well. He is the best that I have had at lecturing of the approximately 10 professors that I have had at UCLA Extension. Yet, he overreaches. He believes that he will turn his students into the greatest accounts in the world. This is fallacy and Boutari needs to be aware of this. Professors cannot make anybody the gre

ACCT124A Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Boutari has a unique teaching style and sometimes does not teach at all. He reads through his handbook, which he thinks is the bible to accounting principles. He is a decent teacher but could be better at explaining concepts and not leaving it up to the student to teach themselves. If I wanted to teach myself I would have taken an online course.

I took Management Accounting XL 122 through UCLA Extension with Sam Boutari. His course is not easy but his teaching style is great. He uses his own textbook/notes and lectures right from them. You will definitely need to spend time studying for his exams but his exams are fair and there are no surprises.
