"Hilarious" "Respected by students" "Get ready to read"

Really funny and extremely knowledgable guy! Tests are take home papers which is great, but it also means you need to attend class in order to get the information to write your take home essay. Overall, one of the best history teachers to have. I learned a lot.

Dr. Larsen is one of my favorite professors at Marquette. I took him for HIST 1001 an HIST 1002 and I am proud to say that this semester I declared history as my second minor thanks to him. He makes history interesting. Go to class. All the exams are papers and you can basically get by with all of the information you get from lecture.

HIST 1001 Taken for Credit:Yes Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: Barely cracked it open Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: B

Dr Larsen is very into what he does and teaches. Attendance is mandatory but he's a good teacher and if you do the essays and look at the handouts you have to print out, you'll do fine. Just put in the effort and you should get a decent grade!

"Gives good feedback" "Amazing lectures" "Skip class? You won't pass."

The lectures are very interesting and if you attend them the 4 essays you have to write will be really easy to write. The way he teaches makes you engaged. You learn some interesting facts and he stresses the importance of learning to read documents as well as having great writing skills. Take this class, he's a good professor.

HIST 1001 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

Dr. Larsen genuinely cares about teaching his students. With no effort anyone can get at least a B. His exams are take home essays, just take notes and you should do fine. The way to get an A is by making a BS argument about the information you got from lecture on the essays. Also, there is a term paper done in stages.

Dr. Larsons lecture was pretty much the same every single day, just him sitting in front talking. All of the grading is done by the TA's so it could vary depending on who you get. the class is pretty dull and attendance is mandatory but if you put the time in it is an easy A.

Dr. Larsen was extremely helpful when you visit to his office hours. He is a strict grader on take home tests but his class is easy to follow and SUPER interesting. This course is nothing like high school history course, he makes it actually interesting. Good professor, good class, recommend.

I lovee Dr. Larsen, such a good guy. Makes 1001 so interesting. Both classes have 3 papers (3-4 pages) and a term paper. Easy to understand the material.

HIST 1001 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

I usually hate history, but I looked forward to going to this class. All of the tests are take home essays and are simple to write if you take good notes/pay attention in class. Just make sure to read the handouts prior to class because class is focused around the discussion of them. Make sure to participate a lot! Overall interesting class!

He is a strange guy. He is very enthusiastic and interested in history and what he is talking about. Attendance is mandatory and taken every class. A lot of reading. No tests/quizzes. You have 4 papers and participation that make up your grade. He is a fun guy but the whole class is him just talking. I would recommend him.

Larsen is a good guy with high expectations. He knows his stuff and communicates it well. He will absolutely drop your grade for every class you miss, I know from experience. Still, I learned a ton from him and he absolutely loves what he's teaching. That makes it easier to learn from him for sure.

The class is pretty fun. All the exams are essays, which is pretty nice. Larsen makes lectures interesting, and a third of the grade is participation. You play a French Revolution game that is pretty cool for like a fourth of the class.

However, this class is very writing intensive and your grade depends on good writing skills. He is also a stickler on attendance. In the syllabus it says you get grade penalties for missing three classes and you may think it wont be big but it will! A whole letter and a half will be dropped if you miss more than three.

By far my favorite first semester class. He is an extremely smart person, and knows EVERYTHING about history. He was able to answer almost every question with clarity and good background info. I never missed a lecture, because I never wanted to. Loved going to this class and would take again if I could. Don't take if you aren't a strong writer

Dr. Larsen has extremely interesting lectures that I look forward to attending. He is a great professor, but an awkward person. Papers make up your grade for this class. The TAs do grade hard. (I had a Russian who could barely read/write/speak English)

Dr. Larsen was one of my least favorite professors to date. His lecture style is annoying, and he has a lot of weird quirks that distract you from the lecture. He gives the illusion of brilliance, but really he's just taught Western Civ for awhile. His TAs do all the work. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone but an enemy.

Dr.Larsen is great. I took his modern civ. 2 class over the summer and I enjoyed every day. It is very apparent that he loves teaching and that he has a genuine passion for history. He can be a harsh grader, and has a VERY low tolerance for poor punctuation and grammar. My only complaint is that he did not hid his liberal ideology. Great otherwise.

Very interesting guy. He is brilliant. He seems to know everything about history. Any question you ask will most likely be answered. He loves the subject he teaches and tries to talk about things he knows will interest his students. Also, there are no tests in his class. At the end of every unit there is instead a paper . Highly recommend.
