Great teacher who's more than willing to help. Material is boring but easy. You really have to try hard to fail this one!

For CS102, SHE WAS AWFUL. You will have a lab once a week and her lectures do not help one bit because she just drones off of PowerPoint slides. If you don't have a background in programming, STAY AWAY. Worst class ever.

Mayo makes this class easier than needed, a displeasure. In the future, I want to see her cover the entire book while providing lab assignments that use the last learned topics. My semester, we ended around basic class structure and pointers, neither of which a lab used. The cutest thing, though, is her repeated belief in the class's difficulty.

Excellent teacher who knows exactly what she's talking about. Extremely helpful if you have the balls to come forward, will do anything to help you pass. Lectures are boring since she uses online notes, so you just listen. Or play games or sleep, like most of the class. Class isn't difficult at all if you're even the slightest bit not-stupid.

Difficulty wise, this class is a joke. The only lab that uses anything past chapter 3 is the last one which is usually optional. The tests are super easy and lecture isn't required. However, if you go, you won't learn anything. Not because she's that bad, but because she's that boring. You spend most the class surfing the net or sleeping.

She is probably the worst teacher I've had at UT. Attending the lectures are pointless because there is no clarity in any discussion. I have to take this class for my major and as for an introductory class it is ridiculous. Take this class at Pellissipi I hear it is much easier and that you actually learn the subject.

Mrs. Mayo is AWESOME. She takes care in whether you understand the material or not and she encourages questions, even if you interrupt her--she doesn't care. She has old tests available, and the exams are usually similar to the old tests. (She also puts bonuses on the tests and offers extra credit). Don't take CS 102 with anyone else!

She knows what she is talking about and sometimes leaves it to you to figure it out. She will answer any question you have in class and really encourages it. The TA's are AWESOME especially Bart, Harvey, Masterson, Miller, Newell all helped me out without seeming egotistical. Class can be boring but most of it is you get what you put into it

Was advised to take this class as the second half of my math requirement. I am NOT a math person. Ms. Mayo was very encouraging and I would not have passed the class if it wasn't for Bart Lasater's tutoring help. Richard Edwards was not a very good TA, though. This was a difficult class for me, but Ms. Mayo is a great teacher!

Ms. Mayo is a really good teacher. For 102, she put the lecture notes online, so there wasn't much need to go to class in my opinion. I went to lab (which is mandatory) every week and studied a lot a few days before each exam and still did well on both exams. She's a great help if you don't understand something- very knowledgeable!

Firstly, I am a CS major, so take what I say with a grain of salt. CS 102 was boring, but it was extremely easy, and Mayo makes a point to put up ALL her notes online. The tests can be tricky, but we were allowed to make a cheat sheet. She is also an exceedingly helpful advisor, not to mention a very friendly one.

She's just awful. She doesn't teach. She stands in front of the class and reads notes. Her TA's are the absolute worst. Especially Bart Lasater. The problem with this class is that everyone is treated as if they are a CS major. There were about 13 of us who weren't. IMO, take Alexiades for Math 171....he actually teaches.

Programming classes have a lot of potential to be extremely boring, and I've had a few of those classes in the past. Her class is definitely not one of them! A great teacher, especially for introducing the world of programming to beginners.

She is great, boring yes, but honestly it's programming, one can only make it so interesting. It is really easy to get an A, just go over the lecture notes before tests. And actually do the homework and labs, they help alot. The TA's were all really good too.

I had Mayo for CS102, and she freaking rocks. I managed to get her as my academic advisor as well (w00t). She's pretty much amazing; her lectures are sometimes boring, but some people take a while to "get" the CS material, so she has to move slowly. My TAs were excellent, also. I highly recommend Mayo.

Mayo is a great teacher that obviously has a passion for the subject. She provides helpful analogies and alternate explanations to make sure her student's understand the material. She also has a good sense of humor, and is a nice person.
