For MAP Texts and Ideas, he was awesome. Although your TAs grade your papers so it doesn't really matter.

He's an awesome professor, very engaging, and like he says, his main goal is for his students to enjoy the material. He consistently calls on students in his (large) lecture by name, and shows that he really cares about his students. The class and the readings are also really interesting. However, your grade is completely dependent on your TA.

Great professor! Really interesting, entertaining, friendly. Despite it being a fairly large class, he took a moment to catch me after the last class and commend me on the insights in my papers, and an extra-credit poem. Then, sent out emails congratulating every student who got an A in the class. He really cares about his students and it shows!

Professor Gerety is a well articulated, enthusiastic, and knowledgable instructor. His class on Law & Morality in the Age of Terrorism was very interesting and really helped to shape my own perspective on the course material. One of the best professors at NYU by far. I highly recommend him.

I took Law and Morality in the age of terror with him. Gerety is a very good lecturer and an interesting man. I enjoyed his class a great deal, and I felt like a I learned a lot about the way that terrorists think and how the government tries to deal with them. he likes to name drop, but that's a normal human tendency

I am currently taking Law & Morality in the Age of Terror with Gerety. He is a wonderful professor. I absolutely recommend taking his class before graduating. Really makes you think, but expects a lot out of you. 200-300 pgs of reading a week. Works with current events and fundamental texts.

Had him for a Collegiate Seminar: Poetry & Philosophy. Constantly brags about his pedigree (Yale, Amherst, prep school) and never lets you forget he's had a nice bourgeois lifestyle. Loves hearing himself talk. Told a student to stop using such big words b/c certain kids (the public school kids) wouldn't understand. Pompous and offensive.

Enthusiastic and determined to make you just as excited about the subject. Even with a 90 student class, he knows everyone and ensures that each person gets the most out of his class. Engaging lectures and always promise of amusement. It's a lot of work, but he's worth it. He'll make a more intelligent person out of you.

I took Constitution in the Age of Terror. Definitely one of the best professors I've had in college. The classes are very interesting and really supports participation from everyone. The class covered many things from current articles, Supreme Court cases, philosophy, etc. I highly suggest you take any of his classes.

He's enthusiastic about his subject, but lectures can get monotonous. Shows fun youtube clips at the beginning of most classes. He makes you read the ENTIRE book where others would only require chapters, however, and his TAs suck - they are selfish and uptight. Gerety is good, but the readings & grading suck.

Best class at NYU. He is down to earth, amazing, and the best professor I had in the last four years. He is inspiring and a funny guy. Must take his class. God Bless him!

Constitution in the age of Terror. He's really nice and fun. Loves to talk about "when I was president of Amherst" or "when I met this famous politician" but it's just funny because he gets so excited. Lots of reading, but it's worth it. I'd say only take this course if you like law and aren't afraid to argue Con law in class.

I took this class because it sounded interesting. It was, but many of the concepts went way over my head. Lecture is mandatory and he keeps track. My TA was horrible, cocky, and completely unhelpful. I had no idea what to expect when the final rolled around. Gerety is funny, though, and engaging if you enjoy philosophy. Unfortunately, his crappy TA

gerety has a really good reputation in the politics department but, despite his being a great guy, and despite a lots of interest and knowledge of the material, the class itself is a dud. the workload is heavy, he expects you to draw from outside sources, and after a full term of hard i dont feel like ive learned anything. TA's terrible. VERY HARD

Love his random google images and youtube videos. The only thing that's daunting is that he expects you to read the ENTIRE book, and there are a LOT of them. even my TA thought it was a bit ridiculous that he wanted us to read the entire Republic, etc. anyways, fun, engaging, likes to make jokes. Don't like my TA, love lecture.
