Econ 102
Outstanding prof! She teaches clearly and helps students build good skills. The class is about as difficult as a well-taught AP class in high school. I studied about 2 hours per week for her class (and went to class) and and easily learned material for tests. She obviously cares about good teaching, an unfortunate raity at UMB.

She says she will give you a B if you attend class and do your homework. But in the end she gives you a C or D. Very bad grader. She doesn't know what she is talking about and never helps students with question. DO NO TAKE HER!!

If easy A's are your goal, stay away. But, if mastery of the material and of critical thinking skills are what you want from college, Nelson is amazing at helping you get there. Exams were all essay and math, but she did make them 'open note.' She's very into fairness, and making sure you get back what you put in. Incredibly smart and interesting.

Her class is a little bit boring. Lacks activities in class and talks about the concepts a lot. Above all, she is a good professor, but somewhat traditional. I did what she told us to do. Did go to every class, Finished all the homework, took notes, prepared for the exams and fixed my problems. Then I get a A-. At least you put time into it
ECON205
Belive me this class is not easy. I study hard,do all her homework and attend all her class. Can you belive it, I got 95 in Mid and 95 in homework and 93 in final. But I got B+. To get A you should supoose to have 100 in all exam. So weired and unfair. How could student get 100 in all exam.Really better to take with other professor.
ECON205
extremely thorough.. well prepared, can't ask for a better professor. she's easy, seriously. if you do the work, go to class, do what a student SHOULD do, you will easily get an A. the Final is like the homework, no tricks. really nice too. HIGHLY recommended.

I don't know what people on this page are talking about, I took Nelson's class Fall'09 and she never got us food, she was a very difficult teacher and made the class super boring. She seems like a nice lady though. She gives out a crapload of hw too =(
ECON101
I am one of those students who studies a lot and tries to do well. Take the notes she writes on the board. For tests, she gives you a study guide sometimes, but not much classtime review, and USE the online student workbook!-she sometimes gets questions from there. On one test the grades ranged from below a 45 to a 98, and she scales sometimes too.
ECON205
I didn't do well in this class, but I got a B, so I think she is a ez grader. Only 2 exams and it's open books and notes. This class is not boring if you like math.

Brilliant economist but terrible teacher. I think she is used to teaching students who already have some understanding of economics. She will not do any reviews before any tests and keep in mind that some tests will have 2-3 chapters worth of material. Also her mistrust in students is a bit elementary school (chairs have to be apart during tests)
ECON101
she a nice teacher but she a bit boring. i also find her test a lito difficult bcuz there is so much to study and go over with lito time. she likes to jam as much as possbilee the class before the test day and she never review what is gonna be on the test.

Had her for Micro. Genuine woman, encourages discussion and questions. Buys food for class on exam days! She doesn't deviate from text much, but her lectures make more sense, really dissect the readings (I assume) - I barely read the textbook, just attended classes and participated - got an A.
