ok, you actually HAVE to put a lot of studying far in advance for an A. there is far too much material to cram. the perks: she drops the lowest grade, you get a cheat sheet, and attendance isn't mandatory. BUT read every line of the book. the exam questions are straight forward, so just know the material. USE the practice book, exams are similar

This is the worst professor I've had so far in Georgetown. You would think that 4 tests and the lowest grade is dropped is a good idea but think about it twice because for each test there's a ridiculous amount of material to study. If you are not a psych major trust me and DO NOT take this class. If you do, you will regret it.

HARD ESSAYS. never got above a 5/10 on mine...nice prof, always very chirpy and happy...but agreed. the test comes from the book...but its A LOT of studying...i tried studying the day b4 b/c i have a lot of work to do....def had to pull almost all nighters. SOOO MUCH INFOOO in so little time. but u do get a cheat sheet! 8am classes are too early..

NOTTT AN EASY A. She is a very good professor, but you need to spend a lot of time studying/reviewing to do well. You think you know the material and still get B's. You learn a lot though. Stearns doesn't round up your grade so it kinda sucks, but she's a good prof.

She is a verryyy interesting professor. Her sense of humor adds a sense of fun spirit to the class and makes psychology more interesting. it is an easy A if you prepare from the study guide and you dnt have to do the final which is nice. 8 am sucks but a cheat sheet on tests. highly recommended
PSYC001
don't take. you have to study far in advance to do well, which is not worth it for those who just want to get done with the social science requirement. there are many other professors who are easier. i suppose she is nice, but she grades so hard on the essays, you basically have to ace the rest of the test
PSYC001
I agree with the last two posters. I took this class (8 am, mind you) assuming it would be a walk in the park. You have to study a ton for the tests, and I got 6/10s on all the essays. When the tests are out of 100 points, you can hardly get any multiple choice questions wrong if you want an A. She is nice, I guess, but is never on campus to meet.
PSYCH101
NOT AN EASY A. Lectures are pointless, you have to study hard from the book. Tests are multiple choice with one essay, but the essays are impossible, she is very picky. I am a business student and just took this to fulfill my requirement, DO NOT DO IT, only take this class if psychology interests you and you plan on majoring in it.

Beware!! Stearns is NOT EASY! I thought this class would be an easy A, it is far from it. So much reading. Mult choice part of her exams are ok if you study hard but the essays are impossible; she takes off points for everything. Not worth the 8am struggle

I went into this class because I love Psychology and I wanted a challenge for my Psych class. However, this class was much more than a challenge. It was one of my hardest class, and I honestly thought that it would have been easier. I had taken AP Psych senior year and although I had remembered stuff this class is really intense. Cheat sheet though
PSYC001
Easy A if you put in the time to make a detailed memory card (which you can use on the test) and buy the optional study guide (the practice questions are like what you can expect on her tests). 3 of 4 tests count (so you can drop the final). Interesting class with a professor who truly cares about what she's teaching.
PSYCH001
Class is interesting. You don't really have to go though because tests are based on textbook material (and mostly multiple choice). Read the text the nights before a test and make a really detailed cheat sheet (you can bring it with you into the test).
Psych001
cheat sheet (one front page of ANYTHING YOU CAN FIT ON IT). Do make sure you review and know the material. Essays are very in depth and require a lot of knowledge on the material. Gives three options for essays and you choose one. 50 multiple choice questions. drops lowest exam (can be final) Final is all mul choice

General Psych with Stearns was a fun experience and you could definitely tell that she knew her stuff. She specializes in social psychology. The class itself (4 tests with lowest grade dropped which could include the final) was doable. However, if you don't catch up on the textbook readings before the exams, you will be doomed to put it lightly.

Amazing professor! I can't stand waking up for early classes, but this class was worth it. She takes a genuine interest in her students' success. Her lectures are clear and engaging, and exams are reasonable - you can use a memory card and the lowest grade drops.
PSYC001
Excellent professor. Every class is stimulating and Professor Stearns' energy and enthusiasm make the effort of getting up for an 8:50 class totally worth it. Tests go off class material and textbook but are very fair. Plus the allowed memory sheet really helps during the test. Highly recommend for the intro to psych course.
PSYC001
Boring lectures. Truly no need to go to class...I went the first half and not the second and my grades actually improved. 4 tests including a final make up 100% of the grade, and you get to drop one. Study the book hard, make detailed cheat sheets and you won't have a problem getting an A
PSYC001
Great lector. Read the book, follow the outline in class, and GO TO CLASS. An 8:50 is difficult, but she makes the lectures worth it. Relatively easy midterms (with a memory sheet) and a final with no essay.
PSYCH001
Stearns is SO boring when she lectures, and she actually doesn't know what she's talking about. When people ask questions she goes around the answer and doesn't really say anything important. If you read all the material, you'll do fine. but if you like psych, definitely take someone else.

I really loved this class! She's so energetic and interesting-- I always went to class even though you really don't have to if you read the textbook carefully. It's also easy to get an A if you study- 3 tests and a final with one-page cheat sheets (and you don't have to take the final if you have an A!)
