Dr. Bauer is a really tough grader, but he gives great feedback, and numerous opportunities to seek help, and make up points. There is a semester long project which the students pick and write a 10+ page paper and power point. Dr. Bauer is really easy to talk to, and goes out of his way to make sure you have all the resources you need.

Bauer is definitely knowledgeable and passionate about math, but I would not recommend him as a professor. He doesnt post a Canvas page which makes it hard to see your grade and the lectures are dry and boring, especially because he goes off on tangents unrelated to math. He is also super passive and unapproachable. Take another professors class.

Good luck ever seeing what your grades are. He has never once updated moodle and gets annoyed if you ask him what your grade is. I find him very rude, boring, and not at all approachable. For such an easy class youd think hed be a little more relaxed

Most lectures consist of tangents that hardly relate to math, let alone the class material. I was often left teaching myself to complete the homework. I've had discrete math as well. Both classes were difficult not because of the material, but because Bauer is disorganized and a strict grader.

Dr. Bauer was keeping our grades on the back of a piece of paper. Two weeks before the end of the semester he lost the piece of paper. He then demanded that we all find our graded papers and tell him what our grades were. He then claimed to have found the paper when the class made a joke out of him. None of the grades matched what we had received.

Guy made me not like math anymore. First, lectures from his horrible "book " were not helpful. Second, he always went off on tangents talking about how social he was or how he's met all these people that no one cares about. Third, heard from my classmate that he rarely showed up to his office hours. He is a horrible teacher. Take his PHD away.

I had this prof. for FYS, unsolved ciphers. If you don't have to, don't take this class. It is a hard topic in general. No guidelines for any papers or the last project and then grades you super harsh. Took 50% off my paper bc I couldn't commute when it snowed 3 ft the day before it was due. He also never answered any of my emails asking for help.

Professor Bauer's style is a bit different than your run of the mill Professor, but that was the most inspiring part of his class. The mechanics of calc really don't take long to teach. His stories and quirky example problems gave you a reason to take interest beyond drone copying some notes.
Can be interesting when he's not discussing math, which is during most of class. This class is very unstructured, rushed, and does not use previously learned skills. If you want to continue to think you are proficient in math do not take this professor.

Honestly, very little calculus was learned in this course. I had calc in highschool and passed with flying colors. took this class and barely passed. he was more interested in talking about how he worked for the NSA and how if you fail a math course in college its okay because he did too.

A very useless teacher who teaches a calculus 1 class at a calculus 3 level. Does not stop to clarify, and constantly gives useless back stories about a theory that in no way helps with understanding the concept.

Discrete Math: Professor Bauer is one of the best teachers I have ever taken. He is one of the only math teachers I have ever met that applies high-level math to the real world in such an interesting way.*Not an easy class. You will put in a lot of work to get even a decent grade. His online textbook introduces topics but you are expected to research

I had this guy for linear algebra, he never assigned homework and we had to print our textbook online. The class was completely unstructured and during lecture he frequently digressed into his own areas of interest. I learned nothing exceeding the linear alg course I took in high school. Avoid this guy if possible.

What a joke. I'm really good at math, and I couldn't make it through his class. He rushes, doesn't teach anything, and then gets mad at you for saying you don't understand what's going on. He's one of those people you end up wanting to smack upside the head and see if it does anything.

If you're taking this course to learn how to computer program, don't bother. We were only in the comp. lab two times all semester. You're better off knowing how to program before you take this course. The course should be called Misc. Math Info.

Nice guy who's really into his subject matter. His tests are hard and he expects a ton from his students knowledge wise. If you are very good with math or a math major you will love his classes. If not, chances are you will struggle (i'm not). He does go through things very quickly though.
