TEST HEAVY
Worst professor ever! I recommend taking PHYS161 over this class because lectures are useless (discussion with Povinelli were good though). You learn very little and Burke is very unorganized. He takes attendance every lecture because he makes it worth 5% of your grade. |

He's a kind guy but in terms of rating his teaching, he's the worst professor I've had in my life. If you have no background in physics please do not take his course. I don't think the course itself is ridiculously difficult, but it's just so time consuming having to teach yourself all the info. I got much more done at home than in his lectures. |

CARING
LECTURE HEAVY
He's a knowledgeable guy in the field of engineering and more importantly physics but he tends to waste a lot of class time and fails to deliver the content clearly. The class did not follow the syllabus after the first week so it was hard to know where to look for supplemental material. Look hard for supplemental material if you take his class. |

If you ask him a question one-on-one he will explain it well, he also uploads his notes from the class to blackboard. Lecture style is poor though, and he refuses to answer questions thoroughly during the class period claiming there's not enough time. Better to learn the material on your own. Made the end-of-semester project easier though |

ACCESSIBLE OUTSIDE CLASS
Dr. Burke is by far the most accessible professor I have had at USC. His lecture style is a little bit funky, but you get used to it very fast, and he is the BEST at giving immediate and very helpful feedback. If you ask him questions he will explain the concept/how to do the hw problems, and he follows up with you later to make sure you understood |

HILARIOUS
Assigns homework but isn't mandatory. This is bad for me because if it's not mandatory, it means I won't do it; and so, I did bad on the weekly quizzes as well as the midterms/final. Weekly labs can be very long. Burke is the funniest professor I've ever had but his teaching style doesn't work for me because he expects us to be self motivated |

BEWARE OF POP QUIZZES
SKIP CLASS? YOU WON'T PASS.
Certainly not the first choice for a physics professor. Quite rude in the way he addresses students and lectures are very confusing. Attendance taken by weekly quizzes. Little curve on the exams which are usually homework problems or exact examples from class. Have a friend copy EVERYTHING from lecture if you plan on ditching class. |

SKIP CLASS? YOU WON'T PASS.
Lecture is essential! ALL the material your will EVER need for the course is covered in class (HW and lab!); just copy the class codes as notes. He focuses on the logic behind coding and gives you the tools you need to think through the labs. If you put in a decent amount of effort he or the TA will help you through each lab. Very available! |

HILARIOUS
Burke is a terrible teacher for this class. The "lectures" are just him rambling on about god knows what. I didn't learn ANYTHING about Matlab. That being said, he's a really nice guy and really funny to listen to. This class is a really easy A since your only grade comes from labs, so it's okay if he doesn't teach us anything. |

Hilarious and awesome guy; not that great of professor. Incredibly smart, but expects students to be able to follow his fast and complex calculations. Attendance is taken via quizzes, but his hilarious antics make going to class worth it anyway. Does and says ridiculous things. Near-incomprehensible lectures - S.I. got me through this class. |

Burke's a great guy. Professor? Not so sure. This class can be confusing without prior programming experience. However, If you have a friend or two that knows what's going on in the class, you should be ok. |

Dr. Burke was a wonderful teacher. He taught me about programming. I remembered a lot from his course. He got me started in programming in C++. I am now in CSCI103 and am remembering some of his lectures. Good Guy over all. |

He's an awesome and funny guy, but not a teacher. He makes you feel really confident about your grades, and it seems really easy, but since it's easy and there is a curve, even if you do really well, everyone does really well. He told me I'd end up with a good grade but unfortunately I didn't. very confusing.... |

I'm pretty sure he was high for several of the classes... Either way, he makes no sense, does ridiculous things, and in general is a hilarious professor but awful at teaching. It's worth going to class just to watch his antics, though. |
