GET READY TO READ
GIVES GOOD FEEDBACK
GRADED BY FEW THINGS
She is such a great professor. Definitely, take written notes, and you can get away with not doing the readings. We have 3 in-class writings which pretty much assess our writing and how we can improve. Mid-term and final, all based on the topics she talks about in class. 6-page final paper, and if you check your writing in advance you'll get an A |

LECTURE HEAVY
GRADED BY FEW THINGS
PARTICIPATION MATTERS
Professor Soltan is unlike any professor I've had. We had very few assignments; there was a final paper (6 pages), small in class writings, and a mid-term. She makes it apparent early on if she likes your writing. She provides no grading criteria; so you don't know what percentage your final, mid-term, or in class writings are. |

INSPIRATIONAL
HILARIOUS
AMAZING LECTURES
great lecturer, two in class assignments, final, midterm and final paper. However, she never puts one grade in blackboard and the finals and papers were graded so fast I'm pretty sure she just made up grades. |

A little repetitive at times but still really enjoyed the majority of her lectures (she's an engaging speaker). Only a few things ended up being graded. Be prepared to write mainly in-class essays. I'd recommend using office hours for any out-of-class essays you have to write. |

Doesn't want to hear anyone else but herself speak. You can skip doing most of the reading and show up to hear her speak for 75 minutes without concern, despite the fact that it should be a discussion class. Grading isn't explained well. The same themes are repeated over and over again with no evolution through the semester, week 1 to 15. |

Thought she was great the first day of class then I realized that she was just going to repeat the exact same thing throughout the rest of the course. Literally. The. Exact. Same. Thing. |

JOYCE CLASS: Incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter (seriously, if Joyce were alive she'd be a stalker), but she tends to repeat herself alot day-to-day; as a result, the class tends to slog later on. Liked that her class was not obsessed with every critical perspective on Ulysses, but with opening the novel up to readers |

I only took Aesthetics for the major requirement, but Soltan made it worthwhile. Fantastic lecturer, extremely well-read, helpful, open to new ideas, kind, and funny to boot. Sometimes someone would have a completely random comment and she would respond without missing a beat. Highly recommend! |

Professor Soltan was one of my favorite professors so far. She is outgoing, passionate about the literature, and is not afraid to give you her opinion. Her discussions are engaging, and there are times where the class will go off on a tangent and she won't mind at all! I did well in the class, and enjoyed it along the way. |

Prof. Soltan is incredibly intelligent and unexpectedly funny. She's a really engaging lecturer, but she does circle around the same ideas most classes, and by the end of the semester it gets repetitive. I would recommend this class to those who are very well read, otherwise you'll be out of your depth |

Dr. Soltan is awesome. She is a fantastic lecturer and manages to sustain engaging discussions with the class. Unfortunately she is on sabbatical this year I think, but I would really highly recommend any of her classes once she is back. Just a really great teacher. |

Brilliant, energetic, and hilarious. She knows her authors backwards and forwards and is so dedicated to full exploration of the topic that she includes authors in the curriculum whom she [vehemently] hates. Even though I rarely spoke in class, it was worth enduring the pretentious banter of my classmates just to listen to Margaret. A must-take. |

Immensely funny & very articulate. Interpretations are lucid and thorough. Always looked forward to coming to class because Soltan put maximum energy into her lectures. She's sharp, smart, and serious. |

Professor Soltan is so funny and smart. She isn't afraid to tell people when they're being pretentious, which may account for the bad ratings. Good readings, good understanding. She's very focused and a good grader. |

Prof. Soltan is very opinionated and outspoken in class, but her opinions do not narrow the scope of her course in any way. We read just as many conservative political writers as liberal. A well organized course with aptly chosen readings. Tests expected a comprehensive knowledge. Very approachable. |

Seems good the first day, then she shows up each following day and repeats same thing. Not much substance or insight, just judgemental opinions unrelated to literature. Expectations also unclear. She even spoils all the books and tells you the endings of books you haven't finished yet! |

Professor Soltan is very opinionated, and very straightforward about said opinions; this is a very good thing. Class is never boring, as she has interesting and relevant information about any topic on which to speak. Well worth the effort. |
