LECTURE HEAVY
Van Leer is a really cool guy with loads of personal stories but class is very boring. That said, you don't need to pay attention at all as everything is posted on Blackboard. He has an attendence sign in but just switch off with a friend in your class, he won't notice. Tests seem hard but are drastically curved and all multiple w big extra credit |

LECTURE HEAVY
He's definitely a wise old man with lots to share. The class is just lectures though, so you really have to be interested in the class' topics to enjoy it. |

Bring a pillow for sure, and your laptop so you can do other things during his lectures. Try not to take him if you can. The man dresses like the classroom is in the Amazon forest with a bucket hat and overalls. Not too difficult just look at the powerpoints |

LECTURE HEAVY
Nice guy, but old and inattentive. He is passionate about his subject, but he's often in his own world during lectures. Minimal notes required, and the tests are medium. This is the type of class you'd take as a requirement. |

Sadly an extremely passionate man about the topic, but terrible lecturer. reads off power point, don't have to show up to pass, just read power points online. only four tests and one term project. Nice man, bad teacher. |

INSPIRATIONAL
He tells awesome stories from his personal life and research in Iceland and teaches based off things he's seen and done himself. He encourages students to protest for the environment. He will lead a field trip to view sustainable houses in south Florida. He is kind. He is unorganized. There is no definite criteria for a final class grade. |

Reads from the powerpoint, doesn't give good information about exams and what to expect. The exams are tough and worded weirdly. I would advise not taking this professor. You can miss class and it doesn't even matter he post the powerpoints online. |

i pretty much agree with the general consensus of reviews here, it is very hard to know what to study for for his tests, and the classes are extremely boring, bring a pillow or other work, or just dont go, nice guy but just not worth taking |

Sweetest guy, but I don't recommend this class. Very intelligent and loves what he teaches,but it's impossible to stay awake. No power points, nothing on BB, just lecturing.No review before tests, and what's in the book isn't on the test.He asks very specific and confusing MC q's. He gives EC quizzes and drops the lowest test score. Not an easy A! |

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Literally just shows pictures and talks monotone through every class then expects you to know some of the material. Very unspecific about which part of the material though. Literally has not written one word on the board all semester and I dont think he knows ANY of our names... |

Aight all you suckas got it wrong. JVL is the beastest teacher at this "school." JVL teaches like a madman and is willing to help anyone out with anything, even not related to the subject! DUDE IS A SMILEY BUNDLE OF KNOWLEDGE. TAKE THIS CLASS, you will learn what's good with saving our world. It may not be the most fun, but dude knows his SH!t! |

He doesn't teach anything and then expects you to be able to decipher what information is important out of four chapters for the test with no study guide. Won't work with his students for any reason and pretty much does absolutely nothing to earn his salary aside from standing in suspenders at the front of the class There's zero reason to take him. |

Dr. Van Leers class was laid back..but boring and with no real point. STAY AWAY at all costs. Its a good class in regards to the fact that there is little work to do at all besides the two tests and research paper. However, he grades unfairly and is not worth the effort. Waste of money, because you learn absolutely nothing in this class. |

Doesn't teach the class. Just lectures on pictures and global warming. The only thing that connects the text to his lectures are the pictures. Otherwise he doesn't explain any of the details to you. Just talks and talks. Not helpful. Currently in class and I am so scared I'm going to fail, I need a teacher! Cool suspenders tho! |

The truth may hurt, but I really did not enjoy this class. I studied and read the book, and still had difficult on the exams, though there is a large curve. He does not lecture about anything relevant. He knows his stuff, but makes the subject as boring as possible. I do not recommend this class. |

literally the most boring professor alive. i've spent my entire life around the water and love marine science but he sucks all the interest out of it. lectures for the entire 75 minutes and is impossible to pay attention to. is usually walking from desk to projector with his head down, bad transparencies in hand, so questions do not get answered |

Class is very boring, he stands and lectures for the entire period. Impossible to know what information is important and what he is just adding in. When test time comes there is no review or any talk of what will be on it. Book is useless. Curves test and offers Extra Credit quizzes which can help you get a good grade but I would stay clear. |
