Considering all the academic responsibilities that are part of college, there definitely are times when you just want to unwind and have a great time with your friends. After all, the college experience isn’t just about essays and exams, right? Here are six fun ideas for you and your friends to consider when planning fun things to do on a college budget:
Have A Picnic
For those attending school in warmer climates, why not head out and have a picnic at a local park outside of campus? Bring some sandwiches, snacks, and tea (you can even try and snag some from your dining hall), and just sit back and relax away from all the on-campus college stress. For activities, you and your friends can simply people-watch and enjoy each other’s company. Other options? Bring a board game, a Frisbee, or play some old-school tag! Picnics make a great mini-getaway from the hustle and bustle of campus life, and they’ll also help you make amazing memories with your friends.
Attend A School Sporting Event
This one is probably a no-brainer for most people, since school sporting events are the best way to get together and show some school spirit. Even if you have no interest in sports, simply showing up and hearing the excitement from the crowd is an experience in itself. At sporting events, you get to mingle with people, eat great food, and get some cool school swag – for FREE! What more could you ask for?
Go Thrift Shopping
There’s a likely chance that if you’re in college, you’re broke—or close to it. But if looking fab and shopping is something you and your friends enjoy, why not go thrifting? Not only will you be helping the environment and saving a ton of money, but most thrift shops actually carry a wide selection of designer clothing and styles! You and your friends will probably end up spending a few hours in thrift shops looking through the racks. Want some competition? You can mix things up by creating an “outfit challenge” with your friends and pick out cool outfits for each other. Main rule: the person who spends the least on a complete outfit wins!
Take A Road Trip To A New City
Spend a weekend away from campus and go on a road trip to a nearby city that you and your friends have never visited before. Traveling and immersing yourself in new experiences and cultures is one of the best ways to grow – not to mention that the ride there is the fun part! On a road trip, you and your friends can learn things about each other that you probably wouldn’t have known otherwise, and you will all create awesome memories that you will cherish for the rest of your lives. Keep it cheap by packing your own food and snacks and splitting gas and motel money.
Host A Karaoke Night
What’s more fun than singing your heart out and letting your inner Beyoncé shine? Belting it out and showing off those amazing dance moves to your friends, that’s what! If your campus is near the city, Google some inexpensive karaoke hotspots in your area to hit up with some friends. Otherwise, have a night in and pull up some karaoke videos on YouTube for fun singalongs! Either way, you’re guaranteed a good time.
Have A Mini-Potluck
The most wonderful time of the year is coming up, which means hot chocolate, presents, and, of course, FOOD! Especially for those living off-campus, host a mini-potluck with your friends this upcoming holiday season. Spice things up by randomly assigning a new recipe to everyone (and hope that the dishes come out decent), or have everyone bring over their specialty dish of choice! You’ll find yourself indulging in what seems to be an endless amount of food. But hey, what’s great food without amazing company, right?
